B427 Wflneeld fleaalae SEPTEMBER- - 3-A dignified, stately, joyous Class of 1948 looked forward to Class Night, painting our '48, junior-senior fights tha thing of beauty and a joy forever, says PD-and according to SG, silly really J representatives from various colleges, ap- plying for jobs, Commencement . . . 15-Dick Hess and Bill Clayton passed out bubble gum to their followers in hopes of getting votes. Rick Meyer was elected president of the class, June Radel, vice-president, Jean Davis, secretary, and Dick Hess, treasurer. Dick just had to be treasurer to repay Bill for the bubble gum. OCTOBER- 18-Ma Grendel escaped with her son's head. Bloody, eh girls? . . . 20- Boys met with Sgt. Hanley. Lard expressed his desire to be a cook, while John asked about the generals rating . . . 27-Rick presided at the first class meet- ing. A committee was selected to decide on Commencement announcements. . . 30-We played host to the sophomores at the Senior-Sophomore Shuffle. The gym was appropriately decorated with pumpkins, cats, and witches. Hal Ed- ward's band made with the mellow music. The poor gals in the cloak room were swamped and also very baffled when Mr. Griffey's rubbers couldn't be found. NOVEMBER- 5- Is this a dagger which I see before me, The handle toward my hand? -- - Remember the next line? If not, turn to Macbeth, Act II, Scene 1. . . 17- We selected our graduation announcements. Rick used undue influence to get his own choice selected. - - It was. . . 19-Sitting for portraits has been the big job of the past two weeks. Some of us smiled, and smiled, but we still looked just like the poor worn-out students that we were. . . 21-Seven students, select- ed by the class, wrote the Pepsi Cola scholarship examination. W. Gallagher, J. Radel, K. Nolte, D. Vignali, P. Dibble, H. Alexander, and R. Knerr crammed for weeks preparing themselves for questions on almost every known subject. They found many in the test that they didn't know about. DECEMBER,- 8-Vocation guidance was the subject of the day. Mr. Craigo spoke to the entire student body about jobs after graduation. In the afternoon local business people conferred with groups of interested students . . . 12-Third hour lit class discussed racial prejudice, ably led by Kay . . . 14-Betty, Fran, and Mar- garet sang Toyland for the Vocal Concert in the style which has delighted audiences for their five years of singing together . . . 25-Merry Christmas! BHS alumni returned from far and near, and many were the happy hearts. Fran was among the happiest. -Diamonds appeared on several girls' third fingers, and cracks appeared in several hearts. JANUARY- 13-Exams! We should have studied. but did we? No! Not seniors! . . . 14-Chemistry students slaved for three hours on the easiest test ever to be given. MNO2 plus 2H2SO4 plus 2NACl - - why go on? . . . 16-English Lit. Wow! Fingernails were flying, and you should have seen the shocked counten- ances when grades were unveiled . . . 22-Gals and fellows were measured for caps and gowns. Dick Hess proudly displayed his 38 inch chest and hunched up his 5 foot 5 inches . . . 27-Ordered announcements to be sent to aunts, uncles. cousins, pen pals, family friends. Bill Clayton ordered 30. Wonder why? FEBRUARY- 5-June Radel was named recipient of the local Daughters of the American Revolution award for good citizenship . . . 14-Ah calories! Ah love! Ah Roger! MARCH- ll-Helen Alexander was announced as our valedictorian, and June Radel will be our salutatorian. Top ten students of the Class of '48 also included A. Shale, K. Nolte, P. Dibble, A Steele. J. Siebert, E. Weston, M. Bliley and P. Herfort . . . 15-Miss Dahl collected the last of the term papers. Beware the Ides of March! We could breathe again . . . 18-Geology students chewed on celery for refreshments. Jackie distributed licorice: the ungracious boys ate it ,all up. . . 18-K. Nolte and D. Vignali were named in the upper 10W of the nation's entries in the Pepsi Cola test. . . 19-Students made real shoe polish in chemistry. June polished Mr. GrifTey's shoes lthat is a new wav of doing itu, and in fifth hour class Sharon's polish exploded. This poor school! That chem- istry room is going to need redecorating when we get through with it. Mr. G. said he would get his room painted one way or the other . . . 29-One more graduate added to the list. George Graham likes - - - Baraboo . . . 30-Class play tryouts. APRIL- 1-Cast for Dear Ruth was announced. Some faces were happy and others were sad . . . 23-Happy seniors attended their last high school prom. The juniors are to be congratulated for giving us such a wonderful prom in our last year. . . 30--The Elks' test on the U.S. Constitution is over, but not forgotten. MAY- 5-Senior Week-The busiest week of our lives arrived. Milton Lange was gen- r-ral chairman of the picnic, and Bill Gallagher had charge of the banquet. Evervone ate too much, but we had a wonderful time. 1Larrv Stewart had a won- derful time all by himself! The will and the nrophecv were a riot of fun, thanks to hours of slaving. Rev. Matthews spoke at the memorable Baccalaurate service. There were few of us who didn't show our feelings the night of graduation. Some of us ouivered with excitement: other shook with fear: and there were those who actuallv bounced with jov Lard took three bows to the East, did a salam. and said, , Thank Allah! And then the year was over. and we were no longer Bara- boo High School students. We were alumni filled with thanks to the Board of Education, the faculty members, our parents, and the many others who made the joys of a high school education possible.
