Ill' CHI-NIlQ'lRX IXBORAIK Adjacent to the study halls is the library The library is one of the features of the building it is a large comfortable, well lighted room It accommodates forty five students, and its shelxes have room for four thousand xolumes It is furnished with ample magazine and newspaper racks In the north vest corner of the library is the of fice of the librarian commodate thirty Although some of the rooms are furnished with old style desks, most of them are provided with comfortable study chairs The lighting of the class rooms is a most attractixe feature Light enters the rooms from the left side only providing ideal natural lighting conditions The artificial lighting was carefully planned to give a maximum bright light with a minimum of glare This was successfully accomplished by the use of a special ty pe of globe vshich makes it possible to have several hundred can dle power of light in a room without discomfort Each room has a special heating and xentilatlng unit Warmed fresh air is forced into each room at a rate which assures a complete change of fresh :ur sex eral times each hour There is an electric clock in each room The spacious officts are on the first floor Adjacent to the office of the superm tendent is a reception room Both the office and the reception room are attractively furnished A fireproof sault has been proxided vihere important school records are kept The assemblx is located on the second floor This room has a seating capacity of fue hundred and fiftx The stats art sem: upholstered opera chairs designed for this auditorium The siagt is fully tqulpptd A large modern theatrical sw1tch board allows xaritd lighting tfftcts The stage has 1 utlorama curtain which makes it possible to present plays with 1 minimum of painted scentrx and maximum effectnencss The rich red xelxtt xtlour curtain guts to tht stage a proftssionfnl appearance This curtain, 12 . FXR KX XIX X81 The leadnng school arehntects of the country were called 1nto competmon to dravs up plans for the new bulldmg The one presented by Claude St Starck, Madnson, offered the most m utxllty, permanence, and beauty, and was accordingly selected In choosing a srte for the structure. the Board hxt upon an Ideal locatlon The prox 1m1ty of the two school burldmgs results not only ln more effrclent admnnnstratnon, but an actual fmancxal savlng IS effected as well, for nt IS posslble to use 1 single heatlng system for both buxldrngs Constructxon was begun m the fall of 1927, the bunldmg was ready for occupancy m May 1929 Due, however, to the fact that there was only 1 month of school remam mg, xt was not used untll the begxnnxng of the present year The bulldmg 15 occupxed by the semor hugh school composed of the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades The junior hngh school IS well establlshed m the old bulldmg Thls new structure embodnes the latest Innovations rn educatlonal constructlon Books are no longer kept 1n the students desks, but nn steel lockers buxlt xn the walls of the corrndors of the fnrst and second floors Each locker 1s,shared by two students, and If IS used by them, not only as a place to keep thelr books, but as a place ln whlch to place their wraps The assembly room as a place for study has been elxmmated Study mg IS done elther m the home rooms or the study halls The home rooms and study halls represent the most modern educatxonal development Each teacher has charge of 1 room Durmg the perlods when classes are held If IS used as a class room, nn the mornxng and at noon rt IS a home room Each morning and noon the students report to thenr respectne home rooms, roll IS taken, and ln the mornmg a twenty fue mmute perxod of superylsed study rs allowed When classes pass, the students who have classes to go to the rooms of thenr mstructors, those who have a study perlod report at the study halls There are two of these, each Seating seyenty flve students They are under the supery 1s1on of a teacher 1 1 1 l A YI 1 ' IX THE QQ fr .'
