Dr. Philip Ray Bryan has made such a tre- mendous impact upon our lives that his resig- nation and move to California were almost as difficult for some of us to accept as his passing might have been. His absence is keenly felt in our hearts. Almost daily we are reminded of various areas where his experience , knowl- edge, and expertise were invaluable to the very complex operations of our Seminary. Dr. Bryan, we love you. And for the years of struggle and success, of leadership and example, of joys as well as heartaches, we thank you, and we dedicate this 1976 HERIT- AGE to you. Its cornerstone was laid by Washington in 1792. Changes have been made by every president who occupied it. President's Message As THE HERITAGE will point out, some changes have been made in our seminary family - faculty, staff and students. In the fall of 1975 we reached a high in the number of students attending classes on our campus. Edwin Crank became a full-time professor and Sandra Crank was added to our staff of secretaries. Our hearts were saddened by the resignation of Dean Philip Bryan last December. We wish him well in his challenging pastorate. His departure led to the election of Joe C. Pendleton Ir. as dean, Edwin Crank as Business Manager, Louis P. Asher as editor of THE CHALLENGE, and Wilbur Benningfield as instructor. All of them have proved to be added assets in their positions. Along with changes in faculty and staff there were changes in the student body. We had 91 different students on our campus. Twelve of them will graduate this May. There was a change in THE HERITAGE staff, and they are to be commended for a job well done and this splendid Year Book which the readers now have the opportunity to peruse and enjoy. With gratitude to all, John W. Duggar .f..l'J ,om -99 - -N Incoming Dc.n's Message IT'S NOT EITHER-OR Some people falsely pit theological education against spirituality. This is extremely dangerous. It is like trying to decide which leg is more important for walking! The truth of the matter is that we need both legs for walking. Some people suggest that it would be better to spend ten minutes on their knees than ten hours in their books. However, even better would be ten hours in their books on their knees! It's not either-or. I trust that your seminary experience shall be spent both in your books and on your knees. Spirituality and study are not incompati- ble - they are companions. My prayer is that you will cultivate both spirituality and study to the fullest while here on campus. I want to be of help in both areas. - Joe C. Pendleton, Jr. Outgoing Dean's Message My, how the time has flown since our family pulled out of Jacksonville last December 19th! It seems like just yesterday. After so long a time, when so many friendships have been devel- oped, how can anyone say goodby '? The opportunity of serving and working with the splendid folks at BMA Seminary has truly been a blessing to me. I will always look back with pride and sat- isfaction when I think about my experiences in Jacksonville. And, I will continue to thrill as the seminary grows and goes forward in advancing God's Kingdom. BMA Seminary - faculty, staff, students, and alumni - you will always have my full support and friendship! With Best Wishes, Philip Bryan Business Manager a,. hs .5 .1 .4 1.1- ,,-. -Q... Bro. Elzie Per- riman led in the organization with an arm extended from Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, at Blanchard, Oklahoma. In 1967, the church was moved from Corvallis to Sweet Home, and the name was changed to Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Mount Calvary called Bro. A. T. Swanson as pastor, and he pastored the church until shortly before his death in March of '74. Bro. Don Sheffield was called in May of '74, and he pastored until June of '75. Bro. R. E. Byers is now the pastor of the church, and Bro. T. V. Walker is the deacon. Bro. Walker has been faithful in discharging his duties for many years . Many souls have been saved through the ministry of the church. The church is debt free, with a bus and a building fund, and looking forward to extensive remodeling or building in the near future. R.
