Through extra effort and the willingness of students to turn a potential problem into a challenge, the unit has become a pleasant place to live. B BICYCLES You freeze in the winter and burn up in the summer. People always make comments about how strong your legs look. Dogs love you, and hills and bumps always seem to be in your way. But bicycle riding is fun and seems to be catching on at BCC. C CAMPUS CUPS Security is assured on our BCC campus by our own campus cops. They keep order on campus and best of all, they let you in the dorm when you come in late. CONCERTS One of the biggest activities on campus is a concert. The SCA did a great job of planning concerts. The year began with The Dean Scott Show entertaining on La- bor Day. The SCA also brought Iosh White, Loggins and Messina, and the promise of more concerts later on. 2 if K . 4 gi 5 4 1 A Q tt' a H 2' it ' 5 W is Y N... A schedule of events for the coming week is reviewed before the program. Stu- dents work hard to provide an interesting speaker or group. Political candidates, evangelists, singing groups, and various BCC students have provided the programs. D DATING Man, it's been so long since I had a date, I've forgotten what to say. Wonder if I look all right? What if she's a dog? Ifll kill my roommate for lining me up with her. Maybe, if everything goes right .... DCRM LIFE Upon entering college, most students have a big adjust- ment to make. They have to move from their cozy room to a large building full of people. Signing in and out be- comes a necessity for the women, while the men pretty well come and go as they please. Comradeship does de- velop in dorms, and why not? When you live with some- body who sees your good and bad sides, you either love 'em or hate 'em-or a little bit of both. E EATING Eating is a battle to get a large helping of something good at a cheap price. This sometimes presents a prob- lem. Meals at BCC are rarely dull, however. During the course of a meal you're bound to drop something or find something that shouldn't be there. If you're lucky, it won't be moving. F F RATERN ITIES Fraternities are very popular around BCC because they offer a break from the dull monotony of school. The so- cial life of many students centers around fraternity par- ties. Night life is stressed and all fraternities enjoy getting together for a party. 3 FOUSEBALL One of the major past times at BCC is playing foose- ball. The fooseball machines are always occupied in the student center, with some people even having figured out how to play the game without paying the quarter. G GREEK DAY Tug of wars, digging for dimes in flour, and riding tri- cycles are several of the main events to be seen on Greek Day. The .sororities and fraternities compete against one another for big trophies and they always have a good turnout for this spring event. H HASSLES Everyone encounters hassles. Whether from your steady, your professor, or just your roommate, everyone has problems sooner or later. College life soon teaches one that there is nothing that can't go wrong. I ICE CREAM I've never eaten so much vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry in my life! Ice cream is a major part of a stur dent's meals-whether at lunch or out at Northwoods Mall. Either way, students are usually well filled with ice cream upon graduation from BCC. 1 jocc1Nc Many joggers can be seen around campus. Everything from athletes to overweight coeds to faculty members are encountered running at all times of day and night. K KITCHEN What would students do without our BCC kitchens? The kitchen in the lunchroom provides the wonderful meals for us and the kitchens in the girls' dorms fill us up after eating in the cafeteria. L LABS livery BCC student experiences at least once in their career at college, an afternoon in lab. For most, this is a learning experience. For some, it's an opportunity to model plastic aprons and safety glasses. LINES Our life at Baptist College begins with a registration line and ends with the graduation line. In between, there are 9586 more lines to stand in. BCC does teach one patience. M MAIL The mail boxes are a mixture of puzzled students trying to remember their combinations, frantic students looking through the junk in their pocketbooks for their keys, and gleeful students receiving long awaited letters. Several students share each box and the luckier students have a good magazine coming into their box which each person reads before the owner receives it. N NIGHT LIFE Night life consists of studying, going to the Bucaneer Room, meeting someone in Littlejohn parlor, or going off campus. For those preferring the off campus night life, Charleston provides many interesting places. Some BCC students can be found at one of many spots enjoying themselves. Their motto is preserve wildlife-throw a party. U GPEN HCUSE Once a week, students have the opportunity of open house. From one to five on Sunday afternoon, BCC stu- dents can have a guest in their rooms, provided the door is left open! P PARKING Parking is sometimes a hassle at Baptist College. All the places are taken, and you aren't allowed to park on the grass, so some students end up having to park on Fron- tage Road. Well, those are the breaks. PRESIDENT'S RECEPTICN Each year, all new freshmen are invited to a reception to get acquainted with Dr. and Mrs. Hamrick. This is held in the Cold Room. Each student thoroughly enjoys the event and the opportunity of meeting the college's president. As you might guess, this is often broken, resulting in demerits. PARLUR Littlejohn Parlor provides a place for males and fe- males to be together-as long as they only hold hands. Many activities go on in the parlor such as watching t.v., card games, or just talking to friends. Q Quizzes An important part of the academic life of Baptist Col- lege is its testing. Whether a major test or just a pop quiz, students usually have to study for them. R REFLECTIUN PUND The reflection pond offers a wide variety of experi- ences. Some enjoy watching the birds. Others just like staring into the water, while some even get to go for a quick swim. REGISTRATION The longest lines of the year seem to appear at registra- tion. Everyone wants to be first in line so that he can get the easiest teachers. Registration does offer the opportu- nity to meet new people, as you often converse with the person who is stuck in front of you for the rest of the afternoon. RUSH WEEK A big week for fraternities and sororities is rush week. The week is characterized by pledges running around asking you to sign pillows or performances of weird skits in the cafeteria. The best thing about rush week is the parties, though. For a week, everyone has a very hard time staying awake during classes. S SLEEP A student's sleeping hours at Baptist College are very flexible. Some nights you can't even get to sleep because of big tests, noise on the halls, or a group of people in the room talking. Some nights, sleep is the best thing offered, so everyone retires to an early night. STUDYINC Studying for a test can be accomplished two different ways. You can start studying two weeks ahead of time so you will have the work evenly distributed over fourteen days, or you can start cramming at midnight for the big test the next day. Unfortunately, most students choose the latter method. STUDENT CENTER The student center offers a diversion fromlstudying and eating in the cafeteria. Students can always be found in there playing one of the games, listening to the iuke box, or grabbing a bite to eat. T TICKETS Several times during the yearhstudents get to stand in line for something good-tickets to an upcoming concert. Most people gladly stand in line to get good seats for themselves and their dates. TRAFFIC Traffic at BCC is sometimes a problem. Traffic jams al- ways occur at convocation and the biggest problem of all is going to traffic court. TREES Trees are a major item of concern. Stepping on a one foot high tree is a terrible offense. especially considering it took ten years to grow that high. Anyone who makes fun of our trees should have seen the campus several y88l'8 880. TELEVISION One of the favorite past times of dorm students is watching t.v. Whether it's catching your favorite soap op- era or watching the late movie. television provides a ma- jor source of entertainment for the students. U UMBRELLAS The weather at BCC requires a student to make good use of an umbrella. BCC students experience many rainy days and umbrellas are frequently in use. V VICTORY Each student has a different concept of victory. To some it is their fraternity winning the game. To some guys, winning is being with that special girl. Whatever it is, victory always brings a smile to the face. W WHOPPER Many students live off of Burger King Whoppers. Be- cause Burger King is so near to the campus. many find it convenient to go there. Q 9 .-J WORKSTUDY Workstudies offer many students the opportunity to at- tend BCC who would not have the chance otherwise. Dif- ferent jobs are available to correspond with the abilities of the individuals. X XEROX Most students at BCC make use of the xerox machine. Whether it is to get a copy of notes you missed or a page that needs duplicating from a book, most students find this service invaluable. Y YAWN Whether it is during class, late at night, or just plain boredom, everybody has the need to yawn. Sometimes it's just because you saw someone else do it. Z ZERO Zero is the average of that pop test grade, plus the num- ber of dates last month, plus the balance of your checking account. It's the temperature when you have a flat tire, and the score with the girl when you at last show up. Ze- roes are like holes in your socks, they are round, and show up when you hate them most. Kenny Loggins and lim Messina get into a lil- ting melody. Kenny Loggins strums his guitar thoughtfully as lim Messina assists in preparation for a song. Loggins and Messina get into the music as the audience enjoys the sound. 19 Dean Scott The cafeteria was rocking when the Dean Scott Show came to BCC. Playing to a packed house, the two members of the group put on a super show featuring such artists as Ray Charles, Ierry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley. With jokes, puns, and im- personations, how could a group lose? It was an enjoyable evening for all present. Ierry Lee sings one of his famous songs. Variet and Interesting Dis- cussions Featured at Convocation Each Wednesday at 11:00, most of the students at Baptist College flock to the gymnasium to see what aspect of our society will be featured at Convocation. Among some of the programs were a BCC talent show, a concert by a touring brass quintet, a leading senator, a discussion of the future of South Carolina from an economic standpoint, and a speech by the then Governor elect james Edwards.
