Dedication cites statesman's achievements In spite of threatening clouds and distances of many miles, people came from everywhere to attend the dedication of the L. Mendel Rivers Library at the Baptist College. Among such dignitaries were various U. S. and State government officials, along with military leaders and per- sonnel. Administrative and faculty members played their part in the ani H-.,,.'4 J' ceremony. Providing music in addition to the choir and band was Mr. Al Hirt play- ing his version of The Star Spangled Banner on his trumpet. The speaker for the occasion was Reverend Billy Graham. His message brought inspiration to all, and com- mended the man to which it was dedicated. L. Mendel Rivers, one of the most admired statesmen of his time, ac- cepted the citation on the occasion of the dedication. Their spring tour took them to Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Faculty members exhibited their talents with a joint recital, f'An Af- ternoon of Chamber Music on November twenty-second. WSW academics 181 Greenhouse ' newest addition To help in the courses on plants, the biology department added a greenhouse. This building was divided into many parts. Each sec- tion represented a different habitat for plants, so that they might be ob- served in their natural state. He is the American, who, in the name of Congress and with the authority of the Constitution, raises armies and launches navies. With every fiber of his being, and with every means at his disposal, he unceasingly defends, guards, and directs the freedoms of this Country, with never a thought of his own personal sacrib fice. He is keenly aware that it is the freedom of a Man's mind that keeps him free. L. In 1971, the Cutlass took trends never followed before. Carrying out a theme, a very important aspect of yearbook production, was the most important. The theme carried out through the pictures and copy, was designed to make each student think about his school and what it means to him. More body copy, another important require- ment, was put in so that you might read and know what the pictures are. Paper in four different colors was also used. Although you may not agree with the choice of the colored paper, it has its purpose. Like the moods of an individual, so has the Cutlass changed moods at times during the year. The colors re- flected you ancl your school chang- ing. Thanks to the many people who contributed their time to identify a picture, to collect a list of names, and to those who took the even bigger jobs.
