In the bestowal and utilization of Hls own glfts, He works soverelgnly, divide ing to every man severally, as He will. By the working of this sovereign providence, there has been committed to us the ministry of teaching . As defined by our Charter, it is our responsibility to maintain and operate a Seminary providing higher education to prepare men and women for all phases of the Christian ministry. The ministry of teaching ls an honorable vocation. The Christian teacher is llsted with those individuals who are designated as the risen Lord's personal gifts to I-lls people. And He gave some apostlesp and some, prophets: and some, evangellsts, and some, pastors and teachersg for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the mlnlstry. Ephesians 4: 1l,l2l The ministry of teaching is vital to the work ofC1hrlst. This may be illustrated by observing several specific functions of our teaching task. First, our ministry is transmlssive. To perpetuate God's witness in the world, the body of truth set forth ln the Scriptures must be handed on ln each succeeding generation. The Christian pedagogue is charged with this sacred duty. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. CH Timothy 2:2l Then, this ministry is corrective. In meekness instructing those that oppose them- selvesp lt' God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth. GI Timothy 22251 Many convictions are but emotional attachments to given proposltions irrespective of their valldlty. The Christian teacher ls a corrector of immature and false opinions. It is his task to loosen the student's grasp on preconceived notions and lead him to rest his confidence ln thus saith the Lord. Finally, this ministry ls redemptive. Dlvlne truth ls presented not merely for truth's sake, but for the equipping of soldlers ofthe Cross. We train young men and women to be bearers of the glad tidings of redeeming grace. A theological school which has no vision of whitenecl harvest fields is an anomaly. In a school such as ours, as ln no other spot on this globe, there must be ears to hear the sob of lost humanity.
