Only by crucifixion of the carnal nature can we see reflected the Divine character of our Lord Jesus Christ in our lives. Humility, then, demands obedience, death to self, death to sing a life wholly dedicated to Christ. This is the most difficult of all spiritual lessons. As we reflect upon the character of the one to whom this book is dedicated, we are mindful of her devotion to the Lord, her quiet, gentle spirit, and observe in her a life lived for and through Him. Many are the lessons she has taught concerning the practical aspects of Christian education, but her finest contribution has been a life personifying those lessons. With deep appreciation of her humility, sweetness, and devotion to our Lord and to us, we sincerely and respectfully dedicate this book to Miss Ruth C. Haycock. It is effective only in proportion to the worthiness of its object. This is revealed concerning salvation which is by faith, in such Scriptures: Look unto me and be ye saved . . . flsa. 45:225: To him that worketh not but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness CRom. 4:55, He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life fJohn 3:365. It is evident that I-Ie saves, not faith. There are two common errors concerning this simple fact that expose man to misery and to Hell. The first presents a false object and the believe is occupied with another Jesus , or with Mary and the saints, or with prayer, charity, or the golden rule. None of these have power to save, and faith , resting in them becomes a false refuge, an utter delusion. The second error occupies the believer with faith itself, not with Christ as the object of faith. Sich souls are distraught by the constant fear that their faith is not the right kind, or that it is not great enough or strong enough. Such a viewpoint is actually ego-centric, not Christo-centric, and will certainly destroy the one who thus trusts faith, not Christ. Faith, delicate and invisible, obscures itself and magnifies the Lord. As faith rests in the Lord Jesus Christ the believer is not conscious of, nor occupied with, his faith, but with the One Whom he is trusting. Through the Word of God we are made aware of His sufficiency, His faithfulness, His love, and thus we cast ourselves upon Him in our need. Peace with God through faith C'Therefore being justified byfaith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Rom. 5:15 should be followed by the peace of God through faith f And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Phil. 4:75 Again, in this, Christ must be the all sufficient object of simple trust: Consider Him . . . lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds fHeb. 12:35, Be careful for nothing . . . let your requests be made known unto God CPhi1. 4:65g O taste and see that the Lord is goody Blessed is the man that trusteth in Him CPsa. 34:85. ffflftjdafefif ? Kam Y DEANS The Promise found both in I Corinthians 1:8 and Philippians 1:6 causes one to wonder, but also brings much comfort. In the day when the Lord Jesus Christ returns, that work which He has been seeking to accomplish in us and with which we so often interfere, will truly be com- pleted. Then He will present us free from reproach before His Father. How glorious the prospect! 251,75 .f2wWz, DEAN OF WOMEN The grace of God continues to constitute the sole basis of our gratitude for daily privileges in our teaching ministry at Baptist Bible Seminary. Provision for our needs has been proven available and appropriated accordingto our faith. In anti- cipation of the imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ, we are daily conscious of our dependence upon the Holy Spirit for guidance and cleansing that we may not be ashamed before Him at His DEAN OF THE FACULTY coming fl John 2:28J. The logical challenge of having received sal- vation as a gift from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is Paul' s, Ibeseech you therefore, breth- ren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service CRom. 12: lj. Certainly we can think of nothing more rea- sonable and logical thanthat we .should give our- selves so whole-heartedly and bodily toHim who has done for us what no man could accomplish. 'I'his is the practical Christian challenge of faith. 714 W4 DEAN or MEN DMINISTR TI 'CTP Registrar, Rev. Mead C. Armstrong, President, Dr. Paul R. Jackson, Dean, Dr John R. Dunkin, Vice-President, Dr. Kenneth R. Kinney, Treasurer, Mr. Russell Phelps Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it. Ps . 127: 1 . To the administration is committed the responsibility of implementing the policies which have been established for our school. They must make the decisions which keep the program moving smoothly and efficiently day by day. In them are correlated the various services necessary for the effective function- ing of a school family of more than four hundred members. They render an essential service to the students, the faculty, the trustees, and the churches and pastors. These men devoted to the service of the Lord, ministering in and through the Seminary, will appreciate the prayer support of every friend of Baptist Bible Seminary. Pray that they may exalt the Master and bring a maximum of blessing to their fellow Christians. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. For we are labourers together with God . . . therefore . . . let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. This is what can be found each summer at Lamoka Lake Baptist Bible Conference. Since the camp recently became the property of the Seminary, students and members of the faculty have comprised the staff working together in classes, sports, activities, handcrafts, and preparing of delicious meals. The aim of all these has been to Win lost souls to Christ and to strengthen the lives of Christians. The reward has been great as around the campfires young people have stepped out to dedicate their lives to Christ, or during cabin devotions a hungry soul say-- How can I be saved? In these instances we see the theme of the camp fulfilled: Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace. 1. - K if muh r-wr un 411. x .Ea 21, I :LN , QQ rs vig' ' ie fu, , . ,WW :W W1 ' e f' , WW MW W fyfmwf ' f M rv ,f N ff WMM 171 W ff W 'f , uf ,pf f'fW7 ZZ 4'Q My W f , , . ,, ,qw Www '11 H011 I YNM Mig v fmt ' s , .fz-11 31 fr. :f 2 4' PL V al .r-4.-x. Seminary board mem- ! bers and friends of the school constitute the l honorary member ship. The purpose of the Association is fourfold. It seeks to maintain a strong bond of fellowship Rev. Thirdly, it promotes a con- tinuous active interest in the Work of the Seminary fnot just as individuals, but as a unity. Lastly, it regards its members as an army of field repre- sentatives pointing young men and women to this spiritually competent and scholastically depend- able training center and encouraging God' s people to pray and give for its important ministry. The unique relationship between the graduates and the school could best be summed up this way: The graduate is the Seminary in FLESH AND BLOOD, living and laboring for Christ in many parts of the world, he is the TEARS, SWEAT, LABOR and PRAYERS of a godly faculty bearing fruit, thirty, sixty and a hundred fold through a diversity of channelsg yea, he is the SACRIFI- CIAL GIFTS of God' s people paying off in eternal dividends . if ' 'fy--1' Rev. The Student Missions Fellowship provides this necessary aspect of Christian education in several ways. Missionary Days, held on alternate Fridays each month, offer valuable knowledge and stimulating challenges. The program on these days is three-fold, beginning with an early morning prayer meeting. During the chapel period every student is given the opportunity to attend sa prayer band, representing some area of the World. A program in the evening includes missionary speakers, panel discussions, films, tape recordings, and other interesting features. Missionary gospel teams enable students to present motivating challenges to congregations within two hundred miles of the school. The Missionary Conference, held in the spring, is probably the highlight of mis- sionary activities. During the conference competent persons present missions in a Variety of ways. - These and other missionary activities are offered so that each student may help to fulfill the commission given by our Lord -- Go ye. Shepherdess Prayer Band OFFICERS A special evening each month fthird Tuesdayj is set aside by Faculty and student wives who realize the need for continued prayer regarding their families and the Seminary. The primary purpose of Shepherdess is prayer. Several small groups meet at the opening of the meeting for the prayer session. Prayer requests and Scripture admonitions to pray are led by Faculty wives. Another important part of the evening is the message based on Scripture with particular emphasis on the heart preparation and service of the wife of the Christian servant. At each meeting refreshments are served by different members of the group and an opportunity for Christian fellowship follows. Prayer, Scripture, and Fellowship combine to help each member to grow in grace and in the knowledge of Christ during her stay at Baptist Bible Seminary. , A. Sports During the early years of Baptist Bible Seminary a basketball team represented the Seminary on numerous occasions. It is the opinion of those who witnessed their activity on the court that the Lord was glorified by their testimony. The interest in basketball was revived four years ago by an intra-muralprogram in which both the men and the women have participated. This year a number of stu- dents requested a Seminary team which could represent the school in inter-collegiate contests. Response has been good and both faculty and student body are confident that this activity will have beneficial results. Good sportsmanship on the court brings glory to our Lord and is a means of wit- nessing to others. A Seminary team can promote a loyal school spirit and good morale within our Seminary family. The decision to undertake an inter-collegiate program has been given prayerful consideration. It is our sincere desire that inthis venture the Lord will be glorified.
