CALIFORNIA 92220 Fe Jill Miller Ao i isi, — anenanenenes earner al | Mrs. Dorothy Campbell has been with Banning High School for 22 years beginning in September, 1953, as the attendance clerk. Here, she familiarized herself with the names and faces of all the students. Later she became secretary to the Principal which is her present posi- tion. Besides bringing up her two children, who both graduated from Ban- ning High School, she has also ''raised'' many young people through the years who now have their children attending Banning High. Even though many employees of Banning High School should have a part of this honor, Mrs. Campbell is recognized as one who is most deserving, hardworking, and dependable. To show our appreciation for all these things, we dedicate the 1976 SAN GORGONIAN to Mrs. Campbell. yy ) A nel oe a ee = ——— - nnn | We re oun out of mony oe 100 ceeeecs to eats 6s eck ee Going hing oud Crying ........82 ud Losing Playing ond Looming .......138 ing oud Cobling ConQug oud Loug Wii Workt Took: Buy “Wheat ts a Senior?” During the fourth year of each person's high school education a phenomen occurs. They are restless, bored and wanting to go on with life. They are between Coming and Going. They are trying to be high school students, sometimes, and adults at other times. They are about to be kicked out of the nest. It is hard being a Senior. It's leaving a childhood, in fact, a whole life behind. A place you know, people you love, will all be left behind. Then there's a path ahead that is so enticing it becomes frightening. It is just Com- ing and Going. @ = =) a o = hy © alll qtr ae ae i ie 1 M00 a a : a 334 baht: il Pereeee eee’ 0 2 3. Three years of high school are considered preparatory to the fourth and final year. These three years can be considered the worst and the best of a person's (still mea- ger) lifetime. These years are full of dreams and laughter, of hopes yet to be ful- filled, with the hurt of growing up and losing the innocence of childhood. The first love, passing biology, going to all the football games, and wondering what it will be like to be a senior and not have another Bronco football season to look forward to - these are the problems faced in the first three years of high school. It's exciting to grow up, to feel new feelings, to see new people, to be an underclassman. It is just laughing and crying. ‘a 6 er te JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS: FRONT ROW: Rusty Garner (President), Linda Herta (Vice President). Coming off a 4-5 season, last year, the Broncos managed to reverse that record to 5-4-1 and to earn second place in the De Anza League, also receiving a spot in the C.I.F. play- offs. Although losing a heartbraking C.I.F. game to Needles High in the playoffs, the '75-'76 Broncos were a surprise team. Dropping the first two non-league games to Norte Viste and Palo Verde, the broncos managed to run off 5 straight victories in league games until the league showdown with 29 Palms High. Although the Broncos didn’t sal- vage a victory, it was a hard fought game losing 28-14. 29 Palms was the No. 1 ran ked team in C.I.F. After that loss, the Broncos could only come up with a 0-0 tie with crosstown rival Beaumont High. All in all, it was a good year for the Broncos. Broncos Go to C.I.F. Although having a tough pre-season, the Banning Broncos man- aged a 7-7 league record. The Broncos lost several tough games to E lsinore and Perris, the league leaders. The Broncos played exciting bas- ketball but they couldn't pull out the close ones. Although they were the class 1-A CIF Champions last year, the Broncos will not be able to defend their title because they finished fourth in the De Anza league and did not receive a CIF playoff berth. The Broncos are looking for a good season next year with several returning letterman (juniors) and a league championship J. V. team. 1. Coach Ray Curtis and Manager Rayfor ''Ray- Ray'’ Williams. Almost everyone belongs to a club, be it C.S.F. or Stampede. Some are clubs that contribute valuable interests to the school. They all have their yearly duties, their annual routines. Choir and Girls' Glee put on ''Sip-n-Sing''. C.S.F. always goes to the Ahmanson. Seniors always have a breakfast. It's a lot of work, but its done with good friends and laughter. It's sharing in frustration, sometimes. It's learning to be together. It's eating raw bread dough with someone you've known for half of your lifetime. It's happi- hess. It's fun. In Kindergarten, maybe up until sixth grade, a teacher is a horrible monster, instilling fright and terror, carrying instruments of pain (such as ''the paddle ' and yelling fits''), giving detention after school, swinging a ruler or yardstick. These mythical nightmares slowly turn into equal adversaries that must be fought at any expense. Then in high school they change entirely, becoming friends that can be greeted on equal terms. They are armed with determination, chalk, a stack of papers, a desk and identity. Yes, they too are people with thoughts, feelings, and opinions. A reflection of these achievements could be noted by such things as parades, bicentennial programs, and our own participation in the promotion of this birthday. It is certainly an achievement in itself for our country to have survived for 200 years. ’ 9th Reading English 3. Mrs. Barbara Doyle First, is a way I feel we should not celebrate it. We should starve out the ever more evident commercialism by refusing to buy products and by boycotting services which opportunistically seek to serve themselves by tying their unrelated enterprises to the Bi-Centennial. ' Second, it would be the finest 200th birthday present for our country if every community in the United States was to plan and carry out a bi-centennial project, according to its size and means - a new tree planted, a new wing for the library, the preservation of an historical monument, a flagpole for the city hall or square, a therapy room for the hospital. ’ 'Third, I rather like the idea someone proposed, that on July 4, 1976, a human chain be formed, stretching from coast to coast, holding hands from the Atlantic to the Pacific. A bit impractical, I'm afraid, considering the Rockies and the desert - but what a magnificent idea, to draw together our troubled people by real human contact over three thousand miles! ‘From sea to shining sea . ' ‘Our celebration should be a continuous vigilance to assure that no individual's constitutional rights are denied him. Conversely, each individual should perform all civic duties expected of him. Only when both these factors are balanced can we be sure that we will be doing the best during our Bicentennial.'' Exposition II, Librarian 1. Miss Ruth Powell As Americans, we can best celebrate the Bicentennial of the United States by reasserting our faith in this country's ability to remain, despite its inner turmoils, the greatest country in the world. ’ English II, French I, II, III to . Mr. Russell Pierce With a cold one. ’ Typing I, II, Economics 3. Mr. Pelton Teague Pray that it is not true that history repeats itself.'' English II, Journalism (Stampede) 4. Mrs. Catherine Wood er } 'I think there should be several levels to the celebration of our bicentennial - first, I think the celebration should be an education of today's Americans to the ideals and spirit of the founders of our country. The celebration should be an INSPIRATION AND RENEWAL to our present generations spirit and standards. Finally, somewhere in the year - logically the 4th - small groups - such as family or friends - should plan an outing or get together doing what they personally enjoy that will be remembered as purely a pleasurable experience. ' ArtI, II, III, Design Crafts 6. Mrs. Cecilia Zerwekh ‘ Bicentennial-1976 is a good time to think about our own personal contributions to the quality of life in these United States. I believe we should all try to be the best U.S. citizen possible, and in this way, make all the struggles, privations of Americans during our Revolutionary Period, worth their efforts. '' English I, Introduction to Social Studies, International Relations 7. Mrs. Terrill Levinson Wickham 'The best way we can celebrate the bicentennial is to become more involved in our country - to become aware of our country's contemporary problems and to do something about them. Our fore fathers did not forge this country by celebration - but through thoughtful action. We need to educate ourselves in our country's heritage and to carefully, yet bravely, make our own mark on the heritage of the future. ’ ROP Child Development 8. Mr. Louis Thorpe On each of our ‘coins' is a statement ''In God We Trust!' ' This was placed there because our founding fathers believed that to survive as a nation, we would need to do just that. We will celebrate our 200th birthday as a nation next July 4th. No other nation has survived longer than this. I believe that if we are to survive much longer as a nation, we will have to follow the advice, as a nation, that is printed on our coins. I think we could begin this by celebrating July 4th with a national Day of Prayer, thanking God for His mercy in allowing us to survive this long as a nation. Chemistry, Physics, General Science 9. Mr. Bruce Tillman 'The best way to celebrate our country's 200th birthday is by realizing what your country means to you, personally. Once you can understand what a ‘country’ is, what it means, then you can make intelligent decisions on what direction our country should be going. Everybody should then take an interest in elections, because they are a powerful means of controlling our country’s direction. I would like to see 100% turnout at all elections in 1976! They're a yearbook's backbone. They're the community businesses that keep things flow- ing smoothly. They are people who aren't apathetic. To keep a business going takes patience and work. To help a yearbook out takes community pride. Businesses like Wheel Inn and Redlands Federal that can put down money not just for good advertisement space shows public spirit that some people say no longer exists. But it does! We of the Banning High School Annual Staff would like to give deep thanks to those businesses that are pre- sented here. Thanks! All this is good for the community. It's public pride. It isn't just buying and selling. oy en Supe i (Raman) qeel. (Commomnoue Sins GRO. Sa ars Clea, AY YOU an. Qs iar sung) san hot Kok | lot ¥ lene ON Eo ee oe S ot S CLI ; . Ramsey Banming, CA 849-4182 730 West Ramsey Banning, CA 49-2732 0v 849-2667 Today being March 10, 1976, the day before the last yearbook deadline, I have become somewhat lethargic in my role as Editor. A lot has come and gone since the beginning of the year. People have come and gone. Hope- fully, as memories become more important, this yearbook can bring to you good memories and make you good memories and make you laugh and temember what it was like when you were in high school, I owe thanks and a pat on the back of Mr. Curtis for all of the free football and basketball games I enjoyed, to Mrs. Campbell for the innumerable phone calls, to Pat for always letting me out of class (when Necessary), to Mr. Wolf for his great support, to Toots for keeping my mind open, to Kenny Rhodes for trying to start a fight with me; but I owe my greatest thanks to the students at B.H.S. just for being here and being great models (Roger Kerr types) for my photographs. This is your book. I hope you're in it somewhere. It's my best try to bare my soul To show all of the holes and patches. Go ahead and step on it. Give it a kick and a Ha-Ha It'll make it tough. 168 ie se “he only yaSon Lm sighing Sera your cai rboee KS because (low oo well |e able © sq teat oe uere aA Crend of the le Sai. a G0 oe.
