The project received publicity in the newspapers and television. Some of the publicity and fund-raising activities included: a banquet, the raffling of a '70 Datsun, candy sales, door to door campaigning, and the manufacturing of a forty pound marshmallow. These, along with donations from local and out of town merchants and individuals, Project '70 chairman helped the Class of '70 with funds needed. Gary Page, and friends. “Now, Winds of oe Are Blowing. . ‘‘Gathers Leaves Up in Its Path” “And the People Who Are the Leaves Will Remain in Our Hearts”. . . - a — ro) pu) Lid _— ) ro} | al = Changes come and go though we may not realize it. In some cases, the change is obvious, while in others, it's not. You know that fashion is different from what it was a few years ago, but have noticed the change in yourself? Now that you're a year older, do you notice anything different? Well, why not try looking at yourself to see what has changed, and ask yourself if the change was for the better or the worse. But what about other changes? They may be: a new method of treating a disease, a different way of teaching a class- room subject, the one-time rookie now sitting in his seniors' AISLE 3 KEEP CLEAR SENIORS section at assemblies, people swapping sandwiches at the lunch table, Or something even simpler, such as: a change in emotion, the child who once scribbled crayons now learns to write his name with pencil and paper, the crawling babe learning to walk. What do these changes involve? They involve people. People trying to do something in a better way, a different way. Somebody reaching out, expanding his grasp, to gain knowledge, to apply what he has learned to make things better for him and those around him. People making changes. Pretend that you're a leaf on a tree. And all the leaves on this tree are the people you know,. . . and then some. And you're hanging on this tree, quite content. But, a breeze comes along, and you get blown around. After a while, this breeze turns into a strong wind. You, along with many other leaves are swept up, and you're somersaulting through the air. Then you know why change is like the wind. 14 ‘ae And I say to you, friends, that I mean what Isay. And when I say that people are like leaves, I mean that there are many of us, and that we are all a vital part of the com- munity. And when the community is the tree, then the people are the leaves. Therefore, it is extremely important that. . Thusly the politician rambled on. He's right, for once, I said to myself. “But then, now that I think about it, this part of his message seems to hold a deeper meaning than literally said. Hmm, I wonder. . .? Tey he ‘‘Gathering More Leaves in Its Path as Time Rolls Past Winds of Change Keep on Blowin’ Winds of Change Bobby Dylan Sang About Change Blow, It’s All Blowin’ in the Wind and the Winds of Change Keep on Blowin’”’ (BURDON-BRIGGS WEIDER, JENKINS=-McCULLOH) . BRONCO Football didn't get off to the greatest start in the score department, Wi however, it can't be said that there sO was a lack of spirit or fight. th In these first non-league games, we played class AA rated schools, which were quite a bit larger than us; not only the size of the team as a whole, but also in the size of their student body. A good fight on our behalf was given to show these other teams that they couldn't win easily. These pre season games, though most of them defeats, toughened up the Broncos for the upcoming league circuit. This toughening up made itself apparent at the D. A.L. opener game against Elsinore, with the score 6 - 18 in our favor. The offense and defense both cleaned up on every play. 74 - ? ahs f Our arch-rivals went down at our hands 19 points behind our The night of October 23 brought with it a long awaited event. P Last year, after only tying the Beaumont Cougars, the Broncs sees were more than anxious to get on the field, and start creaming The following Friday was enjoyed by about everybody (with some Cougars. This was the battle for the title of “King of the exception of Rim). Not only did we win the football game, the Mountain which nobody had had the last year. but were released from school at noon so that we could see it. The game was held at Rim-of-the-World High School. Some of us had expected snow, but luckily there wasn't any. After winning this game, we had a 3 win, no loss record, and a very good chance to become D. A. L. champs. November 6 was an unusually chilly evening for fans and play- ers alike. It was Homecoming night, the Perris Panthers our opponents. This game was important in the aspect of DAL standing, since they were somewhat confused at this time. Even though we lost this game, we still had a chance to make DAL champs. The Panthers had some good material on their side, and de- feated us 18 to 13: However, at no time should it be thought that it was an easy game for Perris, because it wasn't. The Broncos gave them a good battle, the Panthers gaining the least amount of scoring and yardage gained at that ti me in any game. It seemed as if the Broncos were bombed out on the last game. The loss could be attributed to a lack of self-confidence, and to other factors as well. This night of Friday the 13th proved to be of some bad luck after all, since the Tigers WERE WEARING black, It has been a great year for Bronco football having won 2nd place in the D.A.L. We have seen some tremendous action, and a large amount of talent and skill on the part of our team. There was also a great amount of SPIRIT at our games, and the song and cheer leaders were always surprising us with new routines. ZOOBA. . . ZOOBA Noah... Noah! What? You are going to build a Year Book. Right. . . What's a Year Book? A Year Book has pictures, copy and it lives between two sides of a cover. It says stuff about school, may have your picture in it, but what else is there? Well, there are autographs and maybe a memory or two. Maybe there's more to it than meets the eye. When a yearbook gets botched, who gets the blame? The year- book staff, that's who. And it doesn't matter how hard they have worked. We have worked hard this year and hope you don't feel we botched the job. We had a pro- fessional printing company to help us. We have added a new format and layout design and included creative photography. All this was accomplished through hard work. We hope we have produced a book all can be proud of and that it will be part of a con- tinuing trend of better and better yearbooks for Banning High. Ruby will give you an egg. Oops. Coach Chim just lost his breakfast. March on Broncos. Homecoming Week was full of activities. This year Banning High crowned two King Legs. This goes to show you we have men with nice looking legs. Joe Mirci and John Robinson, (not pictured), were the two lucky fellows. Cookie Queen, Annie Whitmore, got extra lucky and also made Homecom- ing Queen. It leaves doubt in my mind whether she won Homecoming Queen for herself or her delicious cookies. 122 The Homecoming Dance was a success for all who were there. The guys and dolls came decked in their best rags and partied into the starting of another day. When the years have turned their hair to silver and the days of youth have left them so very far behind, memories of this night will still linger in their minds. Queen and her Court. What seems to be holding us up. Homecoming 1970 Carol, one of our pretty princesses, was born in Loma Linda on January 14, 1953. Our 99 pound future nurse has brown hair, sky blue eyes, and is the shortest of five princesses (but good things come in small packages!). Eighteen years ago, on March 13th, a pretty little baby girl was born. But since that day she has grown so much prettier that she leaves no doubt in our minds that she de- serves the title of Homecoming Queen of 1970-71. Annie Whitmore stands 64 inches tall and has brown locks and hazel eyes. Playing the guitar is a major hobby of our womanruler. Our crowned queen looks to the future in hopes of becoming a model, then later a fashion coordinator. With your looks, body and personality, Annie, we know your ambitions will turn your dreams into reality. Paulette's lucky day is June 26, 1953. She, too, has golden brown hair with soft baby blue eyes. Sewing is one of her favorite pastimes (besides Mark, of course). Ruby plans on going to University of San Diego to study sociology. She likes cheering and grooves on records. Miss Stringer was born on May 12, 1953 in Terry, Mississippi. She has brown hair with walnut brown eyes. Her escort to the Homecoming game and dance was Robert Miller. € = cd 4 arm EE Miss Diane Kropp, a full blooded Californian, loves horses and songleading. She plans on attending a junior college after high school. Her blonde hair and those blue sapphire eyes really add to her out-of-site personality. Diane, a Virgo, was born on September 9, 1953. ’ Spinsters This year the Spinster's Dance was sponsored by the Future Homemakers of America. It was held on a Saturday night, March 13, 1971 with the music provided by the Blackwood Sparrow. The theme for the evening was the Wonder of Love The highpoint of the annual dance is always the crowning of the King of Spinster's, This year the lucky man was Joe Mirci. Joe was crowned by his date, Penny Feucht, and afterwards, Joe and Penny led a dance. To add something different to the evening, balloons were released from the ceiling; numbers were inside and many couples won some very nice prizes. 18th Annual Block “ B”’ Invitational Basketball Tournament The 18th annual Block B Invitational Basketball Tourney was held in the B.H.S. gym.
