Academics 12 Preparing For Future Homes A wide range of subjects is covered in the homemaking classes. In the unit on food, nutrition, food preparation, ‘ desserts and foreign foods are studied. The clothing unit has tips on dress and material selection and sewing skills. A study in child care includes observation and understanding of a child's behavior and characteristics. Work in the Head Start Program is a part of this unit. The housing unit has three projects , that require students to furnish a room or an apartment economically. Academics 11 In Woodworking, students learn a broad variety of basic hand tool skills and the operation of woodworking machinery. Stu- dents are encouraged to use their own ingenuity. Auto Shop places emphasis upon developing the students’ interest in proper maintenance and operation and understanding how the various units of the automobile work.
