Men love to wonder, and that is the seed of our science. Emerson Math And Science Many of the math courses offered to students are college preparatory. The ones which fall into this category are: Algebra I ' X , Geometry X , Math Analysis, Algebra I and II. The main aim of the math courses is to develop students' skill in deductive logic and to expand their knowledge of the properties and functions of a number field. This is done through the use of graphs, expo- nents, axioms, sign numbers, lines and angles. Nearly all of the classes have a mixed enrollment. Another course that has a mixed enroll- ment, but isn't college prep, is General Math. This course covers the basic functions of addition, subtraction, mul- tiplication, division, fractions, and percentages.

While we read history we make history. George William Curtis The Social Studies Department is divided into Government and Economics, World History, Geography and Humanities. Government Economics is a combined course. It emphasizes the interrelation- ship of the Legislative, Judicial and Executive branches of our Federal Government, money, insurance, banking, investment, and government expendi- tures. The sophomore World History classes study the history of the Western Civilization and discuss such controver- Academics sial subjects as the evolution of man, communism and the social revolution. The Geography students study the influence of climate and typography on human welfare and the economic inter - relationship among nations through foreign trade. Humanities, primarily a philosophy course, covers the philosophy of Western Civilization from Greece to modern times. A study in comparative religions is also covered.
