OUR AMERICAN ABROAD STUDENT On January 3, 1968, Gail Babb received word from New York that she had bee n chosen to spend the next year in Brazil. Needless to say, she was surprised and thrilled, as were her friends and class- mates. OUR FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENT Arlette Meyer It was Banning High School's privilege this year to have among its students, Arlette Meyer from Grand-Duchy of Lux- emberg. Her relaxed and ready sense of humor was a refreshingly new and educa- tional experience for her classmates. In a broader sense, observing her has shown us that differences of distance, language, and traditions are not necessarily barriers in interpersonal relationships.

Right after school let out last year our var- sity pepleaders began preparing to make this year the best BHS has ever seen. They attended Pepleading Camp during the summer to polish up their routines. Besides getting in their weekly quota of practice hours, the cheerleaders and songleaders provided the banner that the team ran through at the beginning of each football game. The pepleading squad also provided the football team with 20 lbs. of fresh, sliced oranges every week. These oranges were paid for and prepared by the girls themselves. The oranges were kept in ice in the locker room for the team during half-time. To give the team a big send-off for games out of town, the cheer- leaders would decorate the team bus. Our pep- leaders have truly made this year the best year BHS has ever had. SONGLEADERS AND CHEERLEADERS Activities 24
