FOREWORD | Look around! There's so much to see —everywhere you want to look. From pond water to outer space, life is pulsating, breathing, discovering and growing. All this is wasted, though, unless you will notice it. In this year's San Gorgonian we have tried to capture the action at Banning High, to include both the things everyone sees and the less obvious sights. DEDICATION MRS. RUTH VARNEY Mrs. Varney majored in English and P.E. at Parsons College, lowa, where she received her B.A. degree. In California she did graduate work at U.S.C., U.C.L.A., and U.C.R. She first came to Banning High in 1936, as a P.E. teacher. Since then she has worked in many areas, including English, Journalism, Student Council and Leadership. She has taught continuously here since then, except for 1947-52, when she was an officer of P.E.O., an honorary women’s organization, becoming state president in 1951-52. The students and faculty extend our gratitude and say, we dedicate this book to you in thanks for the time, energy and guidance you have dedicated to us’
