pS a Ry aS SAN GORGONIAN 1907 PUBLISHED BY THE STUDENTS OF BANNING HIGH SCHOOL BANNING, CALIFORNIA FOREWORD | Look around! There's so much to see —everywhere you want to look. From pond water to outer space, life is pulsating, breathing, discovering and growing. All this is wasted, though, unless you will notice it. In this year's San Gorgonian we have tried to capture the action at Banning High, to include both the things everyone sees and the less obvious sights. Our purpose is { Awareness—to make you Aware of Banning High, its personalities, its activities, and, in a broader sense, of the world and our place in it. People are alive. They work, they study, and they have fun. For some, it is mostly work, and for others, it is mostly fun. We can stay up alll night working on a term paper, or we can say heck with it, and take a lower grade. The decision is ours, and we usually regret it, but that's how things are, as we are all learning. In the fourth quarter, though, fortune turned against Banning, and the Arabs achieved a painful 21-14 lead they were able to maintain. Indio Backed by the solid support of the fans and inspired with the thrill of new challenges, the Broncos battled to an easy win over the Rajahs. Highpoints of the game were Ferris Geter's three touchdowns, and George Wesson's recovery of a fumble and spectacu- lar 46 yard run. Halftime was marked by an outstanding performance by the Broncettes. Hemet The high hopes of Bronco fans, elevated to a peak by Alonzo Brown's early and promising touchdown, by the halftime crowning of Queen Len Callahan, could not, in all their intensity prevent the Bulldog’s Point-After-Touchdown kick from sailing over the goal and placing that one fatal point on the scoreboard. Even the 7-6 score, though, could not ruin the charm and pleasure of the annual Home- coming Dance. Yucaipa Tension, fast play, excitement, all the classic ele- ments of football, characterized the Yucaipa game. Much was at stake in this game, and both teams were electrically aware of what victory could mean. By a minor but tragically important one point, the T-Birds sent the Broncos home defeated scorewise, but still champions in spirit. 47 Palm Springs For the first few minutes of the Palm Springs game, the Bannings fans were too dazzled by the splinter free bleach- ers to be aware of the equally dazzling action on the field. Once they became accustomed to the rare comfort, they watched with pride as The Broncos, led by Tim McCann, Ernie Flores, Alonzo Brown, and Ferris Geter, carried the ball to a 27-13 victory over the much-favored Indians, deflating the swollen Palm Springs egos with each successful pass. 29 Palms The last game of the season, with 29 Palms, in part, made up for the disappointment of the Yucaipa game. Tim McCann, quarterback, aided by half- backs Alonzo Brown and Ferris Geter, tackle Ken Irwin, and Ernie Flores, were in control of the ball almost constantly, bringing Banning’s last game in the DVL to a 30-14 ending. | aN) i.)
