After long hours of difficult elimina- tion this year’s annual staff has chosen Mrs. Wood as dedicatee. The staff was convinced that Mrs. Wood more than qualified by virtue of the long hours she has spent in teaching in the regular classroom and the time she has given for activities out- side the regular school day. We are grateful for her time and dedication and wish to take this opportunity to thank her. Foreword “IN SHINING ARMOR.” has been chosen by the nineteen sixty-five annual staff as the theme for this year’s yearbook. Along with other changes we have tried to use more art work this year than has previously been entered. We hope to catch your interest with these changes even though we still have the traditional pages. The staff has worked both during school and at home to bring this annual to you in hopes that you enjoy it. MARAE | EAA ADMINIS CKA CION a : ae + ef aa - ‘ - aie : rn mn ee : MR. Happy, happy, happy. Sometimes they will yell at their players. Yell, yell, yell. But this is necessary so that the players will understand.” Seriously, though, head coach Wilson and line coach Menzia should be proud. Originally rated for a fifth place in DVL, the Broncos proved strong contenders for the crown and ended the season with a 4 win—1 loss record. Again—congratulations Mr. Wilson and Mr. Menzia! Gilly Malone — DVL Gary Van Kirk —DVL Bob Dage—DVL SAN JACINTO — BEAUMONT The Broncos, starting the year with the odds against them, emerged with four consecutive victories in a colorful pre-season series. The Banning Boys cleaned up on San Jac and Aquinas and racked up the upset of year against Hemet that sent Bulldogs and sports- writers a vay talking to themselves. The “Mighty’(?) Cougars from Beaumont were defeated 47-20 as the Broncos walked over them on their own field. TOUCHDOWN Dick Brown — DVL John McNeil — DVL Jack Thomas Me Ronnie Tennel Mike Zavala COACHELLA— TWENTYNINE PALMS The victorious Broncos double-timed it down to the desert to take on the CV orange pickers only to find that the farmer boys had developed into a well-balanced team. While the CV fans were blowing their whistles in the stands, the Arabs sneaked by the Broncos for three touchdowns. The Broncos scored four TD’s on beautiful plays only to have two of them called back. The final result—a disheartening 18-14 loss. Out for blood, the Banning Boys calmly rode to TP and, upon hitting the grid, casually walked all over the Wildcats who seemed to be taking a snooze when the whistle blew. Needless to say, the Broncos left 29 Palms with a 40-6 win under their belts. Terry Parrish David Gobel 14 Butch Platner Brian Romberg INDIO-PALM SPRINGS As can be seen by the picture Indio spent most of the night falling all over each other and getting up again while Curtis and the rest of the herd took over. They closed the gap and left the score at 20-13 at the half. Ps During halftime Coach Wilson gave one of his inspiring “get-out-there-and-fight” talks and the Broncos emerged to end the game with a 38-20 score. The Rajahs rolled up their magic carpets and traded them on a good set of camels that led them to a last place in the DVL. The Palm Springs Indians might as well have stayed home on Nov. 13. The icy weather proved too much for their thin blood and by the time they got warmed up at the half the score was 6-0 Broncos. All the Banning Boys could think of was getting warm, so during the second half they racked up 13 more points, went to the dance and left the Indians wondering where everyone had gone. . «ui. Gil Jerry Crook Norman Mitchell Dick Scrivens ‘42 Ken Stolte Bruce Denny Lee Brower Roy Jackson Julius Flood YUCAIPA The Broncos spent another freezing night on the University of Redlands field where they took on the Yucaipa Thunderbirds in the game that gave the Banning Boys a shot at CIF. Both teams sort of goofed around the first quarter: a kick here, a pass there —the usual football stuff. But during the rest of the game it was all one-sided in favor of Banning. At the final gun it was 25-7 and Yucaipa chalked up another Homecoming loss to the Banning Broncos. Some of these athletic young men will undoubtably be moving up to Varsity play next year so Banning can look forward to an exciting, if not unusual, year. We overcame desertion, dead- lines, and a low budget. But without the staff we had this year you would not be holding this book in your hands. The staff often worked late hours to finish work while Mr. McCulloh worked equally as hard to print photos for us. |, the editor, would like to take this page in thanking the staff: Mike, Judy, Joyce, Tom, Nancy, Sparky, Sharon, Vickie, and latecomers Jeff and Chuck. They all did a fine job on their sections and should be recognized. Finally thanks to Mr. Lane for another set of Senior pictures and Mr. Rose, our advisor, for providing the push to complete this book. The 65er. The staff that conquered 3R forms, copy submitted records and proof sheets. Hail! Hail, the conquerers?!!! 120 odds dead- 10t be d late lly as inking haron, a fine thanks Rose,
