Chat makes it “extra special” - } To Mr. Powell, our superintendent and former iH principal, we extend our appreciation and grati- 1 tude for his guidance in helping us to become useful, upright citizens. He has served not only as an excellent adminis- i trator, but also as a sincere friend of the student. OUR NEW PRINCIPAL Mr. George Smithpeter A MESSAGE TO THE SENIORS What can be said to a graduating class which is about to step out into a con- fused and bewildered world? But however uncertain the future may seem there is ‘something special’ which you and all other Americans possess — something so commonplace that it is seldom given a serious thought. The price of it has come high in the cost of lives of men who have died to protect it, but it is something which money cannot buy. This special something is your citizenship in a great and strong country. If this seems to be a dark hour in our history, remember that there never was a time when man had so much as has the average American today. His wealth is great in material things which make life comfortable, and he is rich in experi- ences. Though material things can easily disappear, American citizens will not be left empty handed, for they live in a land in which the high ideals and good moral and intellectual habits of an industrious people are the bulwark of a great democracy. So wherever you go, and whatever you do, your strength is welded to that of every other American citizen by a common bond of idealism. This is surely ‘‘some- thing special’’ which should give you faith and courage as you face the future. Good luck but not good-bye. We feel that we will always be with you for we are bound together by this common bond. Earle B. (But the ride home and Terry's ‘‘Greyhound bus'’ nightmare will never be forgotten.) When the Broncs found themselves, Victorville’s Jackrabbits were defeated. League play opened as the green and white from Banning surprised a Perris Panther. Traveling to Palm Springs, the defending champions suffered their first loss as the Bronchos refused to be beaten. Whom we cheered on to victory J and the R. C. L. co-championship Elsinore was the victim of the Broncs' ‘Bounce Back’ slogan as Terry scored 3 TD's in the 20-0 victory. Jost, Vici, Calderon, Turk, and Rivas all had a good night. The 7th place Arabs bounced the front running Bronchos by a 12-7 score. The Broncs ran out of gas after a 7-0 halftime lead and the Arabs dominated 2nd half play. Terry, Horseman, and Uhlir were as strong as ever but they weren't enough against the inspired Arabs. Disciplinary action put seven players on the sideline for the always important Beaumont game. This set the stage for one of the greatest football victories in Banning High School history. The fourteen players who suited up and their coaches were about the only ones who thought there was a chance for victory. Inspired team play was the difference and with Cooper's great catch, Terry's TD, and Baca's extra point, the Bronchos had clinched their share of the RCL crown. Vici, Horseman, Jost, Potter, Borer, Arreola, Rivas, Calderon, Dillard, Torrance, and Uhlir were the other stalwarts on this great night. Oh, yes! The score was 7-2, in case you forgot. The Bronchos needed a win over Hemet to gain an undisputed championship, but it wasn't to be as the Bull- dogs came barking back in the second half to win 7-6. This put Perris and Hemet alongside the Bronchos for championship honors and ended a very successful season for the Banning gridders, who were supposed to be a 6th place team. Horseman, Terry, Potter, Peterson, Guerth, Borer, and Baca all ended their high school careers with outstanding performances against Hemet. 4) al The J.
