DEDICATION Each year we, the members of the CONTRAILS staff, are faced with the special decision of dedication. A person to whom we can dedicate all of our time, effort, and hard work. This year’s recipient is respected by all of the students, attends extra-curricular and academic activities, works diligently, and beyond the call of duty. He is also seen daily patrolling Banks to benefit the students and faculty. We feel that we have not only made a good decision, but the best decision! He has participated in Banks' football, basketball, and baseball programs. He has been active in numerous clubs including Hi-Y, B-Club. and Art Club. Troy has also been involved in student government and is this year's Student Body President. His outgoing and pleasant personality has made him well-liked by both his peers and teachers. Parker put the only points on the board with a field goal, to beat the Jets 3-0. The Jets' defense was outstanding, though. Four times Parker edged into Banks 10 yard line, and all four times were stopped. Derrick Slaghlcr and James Taylor were credited with numerous defensive feats for the Jets. EAGLES SOAR PAST JETS Banks first game of the season was an upset, with Erwin winning 10-9. Banks got the first points on the board with a 23 yard field goal by Johnny Bruce in the fourth quarter. Erwin gained its winning points at the end of the third quarter. Fate in the fourth quarter. James Taylor brought Banks a touchdown behind a crushing block by Steve Howell. Banks missed a two point pass for a win. THE 0-0 STANDOFF Banks improved ihcir record in the standoff game against F.nslcy with the score 0-0. Again the Banks defense received high marks by blocking the Yel-lowjackets in all of their scoring opportunities. PATRIOTS SMASH JETS The Jets played a bang-up game against the Patriots, losing 12-6. Jimmy Maywood scored for Banks. The Patriots intercepted three Jet passes, three important factors to their win. But the Jets defense and offense teams played very well in such a hard hitting game. JETS PROPEL PAST RAIDERS The Jets brought an astonishing win for their first region game. Jimmy Haywood put the first three touchdowns on the board. Steve Howell brought in another, and James Taylor wrapped it up late in the fourth quarter. Johnny Bruce kicked all five conversions to complete a 35-0 win over the Phillips Raiders. 133 JETS COIN BROOKIES Jimmy Haywood meant victory for the Banks Jets scoring two touchdowns; one with an 85 yard run untouched. Troy Anderson brought in the second and James Taylor carried in Banks’ last run. Johnny Bruce kicked the PAT. The Jets won their second regional game; defeating the Mountain Brook Spartans 31-15. JETS SKIM PAST PACESETTERS The Jets brought in their third win defeating Hayes 21-19. Jimmy Haywood scored two touchdowns and one two-point conversion. Ronald Pugh scored the last touchdown, and Johnny Bruce kicked a PAT. Jody Rogers and Lee Riley were big tacklcrs for the Jets. JETS POP COLONELS Banks upset the Colonels Homcco ing with an overtime victory of 23 20 in a driving rain. Ronald Pugh scored the first touchdown for Banks. Johnny Bruce brought in three PAT and one field goal. Carl Foster and Dale Walker scored the next two with passes from Jay Mathews. Mathews had outstanding statistics for passing. JETS BEAT RAMS FOR TOP SPOT Banks defeated Carver 14-12 to break the tie for Region Nine Champs. Jimmy Haywood scored the first touchdown. John Steve intercepted a Ram pass and two plays later, Steve Howll scored for the Jets. Johnny Bruce kicked both PAT's. JETS RIP BY VIKS Ronald Pugh brought in the first touchdown for the Jets, the kick failed. Jay Mathews and Steve Howell scored touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Randy Neely and Derrick Slaughter blocked a Huffman punt, each. This win over the Vikings 18-7 brought the Jets the Region Nine Title for the third year in a row. JETS WHIZ BY WALKER COUNTY Banks defeated the Walker County Vikings 26-12 in the first round of the State Play-Offs. Jimmy Haywood scored the first touchdown in the first quarter. Johnny Bruce kicked the extra point. Ronald Pugh scored the second and Carl Foster the third, after receiving a pass from Derrick Slaughter. The fourth touchdown was scored by John Steve from a 5-yard pass by Jay Mathews. Johnny Bruce kicked for an extra point. LATE REBEL FLURRY BRINGS VICTORY OVER STUBBORN JETS The Jets were the first to put points on the board in the third quarter. Johnny Bruce kicked a 26 yard field goal to lead the Rebels 3 0.
