' 255 BANKS 21 TUSCALOOSA 0 256 Spirit or d sportsmanship have always been the key factors in athletics. This year Jet spirit and Jet sportsmanship outrafcd all others. This is what made us champions. The first two victories for the Jets gave evidence of a superb offonse with scoros of 56-0 over Carver and 42-0 over Ramsay. The defense, however, showed what they were made of, too, by holding both of these teams to a -30 yards rushing. In game number three with the Berry Bucs, the Jets made on oxciting comeback with just 33 seconds left to ploy to end up on top 6-2. Banks had to come from behind again in the West End gome, but the victory was a decisive 22-14. After two catch up gomes, the Jets won over Mountain Brook in the first half with all of their 21 points scored in this time. The Spartans bounced back late in the fourth quarter with 7 points, but victory was again ours. The state's No. 1 Class 4-A teom rolled to a 41-19 win over Ensley in a game that featured fumbles, interceptions, blocked punts, and even some moments of outstanding play. The Jets hod a late start but pulled out a 19-0 victory over Jones Valley. The Homecoming crowd was not disappointed as Banks bombed tho Colonels 27-6. In the battle with Huffman, Bank's defense fumed offense with 13 points of its own. The offense began moving in the second half to secure a 23-6 win over the Vikings. Tho clinic Game was a heartbreak for all with a 14-14 fie. Berry lost a playoff spot and Banks moved info the playoffs as No. 4. In the first round of the playoffs the Jets came from behind once more to beat Davidson 20-20 in overtime. The Jets defeated Tuscoloosa 21-0 in the second round of the playoffs. This put Banks in the championship gome. Many people believe lightning does not strike twice in the same place, but Huffman is convinced it can after losing the 4-A State Championship with a 34-8 loss. These outstanding players from our championship team signed with S.E.C. teams: Johnny Gunnels, Fred Dowson, Danny Neal, and Danny Collins — University of Alabama; Gary Gustin — Auburn University; Rodney Johnson — University of Georgia.
