Football games, band concerts and proms are only three of the many happy memories the senior class of l956 will retain as they leave the portals of Bangor Area Joint High School to bravely embark on the world be- yond. While freshmen we had the distinction of being the first class to organize in the ninth grade. Under our ad- visor, Mr. Armon Williams, the senior class has always emerged with top-ranking leadership. Donald Keat and Jack Stenlake have filled the positions of president, while Jack Stenlake and Robert Miller served as vice-president. Janet Hancock recorded the minutes tor all four years and Lou Ann Chamberlin, Donna K. Miller and Larry Hill collected class dues. During our senior year we enacted one of the finest Senior Plays ever produced on the BAJHS stage. Out- standing in their roles were Nona Stoddard and Joseph Powlette in, The Man Who Came to Dinner, under the student directorship of Mary Louise Carrescia. Larry Hill ln the field of sports our football team triumphed over arch-rival Pen Argyl, under the signal calling of Jim Freeman. The Slaters' basketball team broke several school records during the season, while Gary Strauss assumed the mound for the last time in the spring. On the social side we sponsored the Thanksgiving Pigskin Prance with music furnished by the Castle Rocks. The Senior Banquet was held in the scenic Poconos and ended with breakfast at the Farm Show building. Our event-filled junior year was highlighted by the Jingle Jamboree dance and Bernie Parsons music. We helped to decorate for the Junior-Senior Prom Garden in the Rain. Shortly after, we iourneyed to Mountain Lake House for our Junior Banquet, which ended the school year. Several seniors excelled in the music department. Donald Keat participated in national and all-state band his senior year. Betty Keller, Gwen Bray and Janet Wills also were outstanding in this field making district chorus. Treasurer Formals, football tags, term papers and sports have the juniors in a whirl. As we entered our fresh- man year we organized and elected Dale Miller as president, an office which he has held for three years. Other officers elected were Glenwood Heard, vice- president, Sandra Smith, secretary and Nancy Cham- berlin, treasurer. Selling car plates and bicycle plates with the Bangor High emblem on them was our major project. To conclude our freshman social activities we went to our first dance, The Heavenly Hop and took an educational and pleasure trip to Harrisburg. Suddenly we were sophomores. With that our out- standing athletes were brought into light, namely, Dale Miller, Glenwood Heard, J. L. Williams, Bobby Finelli and Bobby Butz. The officers for our sophomore year were Dale Miller, president, Dennis Horn, vice-presi- dent, Martha Stinson, secretary and Robert Butz, treas- urer. We journeyed to Dorney's Park at the end of the school term and also enjoyed ourselves at our sopho- more dance, Spring Fever. This year brought our musically inclined classmates to light, Sherry Gloss of the Harmonettes, Beverly Fisher as pianist and Lois Reimer whom we often see at the organ in the auditorium. ln the art field, Joan Gregor is tops. We will never forget that memorable Mother's Day Program. When the boys wore red and white carnations in honor of their mothers. Summer came and went. We returned to school in the autumn as juniors. We all looked forward to a memorable Thanksgiving Day when our athletes showed their ability and our four cheerleaders and six majorettes never looked better. The Junior-Senior Prom was held at the Farm Show Building in April and everyone had a wonderful time dancing under Paris skies. After that was our Junior Banquet where we all had a wonderful time and ate our fill. In the spring of our junior year we boarded three busses and headed for West Point and Hyde Park. Thus came the close of our junior year and we are at the present looking forward to our future role as seniors. Under the advisorship of Mrs. Margaret Rockwell andthe guidance of good class olaficers, we have been able to achieve success in many proiects. Ofticers for our freshman year were Ronald DeNardo, president, Albert Callie, vice-president, Judy Evans, secretary, and Faust Capobianco, treasurer. During the freshman year all homeroom sections were assigned to present assemblies. These ranged in the type ot programs from quiz shows to clown's corner. In addition, the class made a tleld trip to Harrisburg and Hershey. We were guided through the capitol building, state museum and library. At Hershey we toured the plant and viewed the process in making chocolate, as well as spending some time at the zoo and the amusement park. ln March the TOVP Latin section conducted the assembly. They presented two short comedies about mythological characters. The tirst As It Really Hap- pened, starring Drew Landry, as the Queen of Car- thage, Gerald Pysher, as Anna, sister of the queen, and Philip Sabatine, as Servus, the butler. The second skit was Mettus Curtius, portrayed by Gary Jones as Metius Curtius, Gary Sandercock as Lucius Cornelius, Judy Lane as the Priestess and Christine Spagnola as a tair Roman woman ithe woman who turned palei. Nancy Yetter served as the narrator tor both plays. We looked forward to conducting our tlrst re- stricted semiformal dance in the auditorium on the evening of April twenty-seventh. We decided to name the affair Metamorphis which means the Coming ot Spring. We are privileged to have among the class a number ot students who are competent in athletics. ln football. Ronald DeNardo, Eugene Trigiani, Michael Menicola and Mason Mabus are iust a tew. In basket- ball Larry Cory, Albert Callie and Brian Jones were outstanding on the iunior varsity. While on the girls' basketball team were Mary Ann Rowlands, Betty Jane Schoonover, Patricia Pysher and Barbara Holland. Judy Kressler represented the tenth grade in the semi-finals of the Allentown Call-Chronicle spelling bee tor private and public schools in this area. We are also proud to have in our class Bonnie Slutter and Drew Landry, who are outstanding in music. Successfully supervised since i936 by its founder Mr. George Ott, the local boys have attained high honors both state and nation wide. By wholeheartedly follow- ing their primary aim, the development of agricultural leadership, co-operation and citizenship, makes every project they encounter a great success. Their float representing an old-fashioned farm scene was awarded first prize in the local Halloween Parade. They annually journey to the state farm show at Harrisburg, Here many receive state recognition. This year five lads, Carl Hill, Charles Fraunfelter, Jesse Miller, Joseph Kulp and Floyd Brewer, received Key- stone Farmer degrees. Joseph Kulp was BAJHS's representative at the National Convention at Kansas City, Missouri. Competition is great since each member must have a protect. Annually in August, the Blue Valley Farm Show buildings and grounds display prize project entries, either livestock or crops, for cash prizes. The building also houses a yearly fun event when aIl hands ioin 'round in the square dance. Plenty of de- licious cakes make the cakewalks a great success. The money-raising project was the sale of seeds and onion plants. At the banquet awards accumulated during the year were presented. This year Charles Fraunfelter presided. Jesse Mil- ler was vice-president. Carl lvliller recorded the minutes and Joseph Kulp managed the financial records. Ver- non Sandt served as reporter, and Larry Dinkel filled the chair of Sentinel. Under the skilled mentor John Heard, serving his last season in this capacity, the team established bright, new Maroon scoring records despite a sched- ule of 6 wins and 15 losses. Led by high-scoring Don Keat, a senior, and Jabby Williams, set-shot iunior guard, this edition of BAJHS basketball eclipsed every record previously held in BAJHS's history. Most of the fallen records were held by the 1952-53 BAJHS basketeers who finished third in Lehigh-Northampton League competition. The records were topped by a sparkling full-season performance of the team pumping 1,323 points through the hoop in 21 games as compared to the previous high of 1,223 in 21 games. Donald Keat, key man in the Bangor attack, be- came holder of every individual record in BA.lHS's scorebook including a smashing 44 point sharp-shoot- ing exhibition against Parkland. Among the honors bestowed upon Keat was, be- ing the first player in BAJHS sports history to be given honorable mention for the Class B all-state basketball team. He also became the third Bangor courtman to make the L-N League all-star first team. Previous recipients of this honor were Joe Duvo in 1950 and Joe Heard in 1953. Bangor High basketball bids farewell to tive seniors who performed outstandingly during the past season. They are foul-shot artist Don Keat, sharp- passing Gary Strauss, fast-moving .lim Freeman, board clearing Huck Warrick and towering Ed Trayes. Back to strengthen Bangor's cage hope for next year are Jabby Williams, Dale Miller, Glen Heard, Mike Danko and Bob Butz, plus bright prospects from the Junior Varsity. lcontinued on page 761 VARSITY First Row: Freeman, Trayes, Keat, Warrick, Strauss.
