She has diligently prepared and served meals as if the students were her own children. She always answers the same question, “What's for dinner, Elaine?” with a cheerful smile every day of the week. She has survived complaints on “school food (that never was half as bad as was said), late arrivals of supplies, and unexpected multitudes who have decided that today is a good day to eat, and always manages to get everyone fed, as well as leaving work with a smile and a kind word. Thank you, Elaine, we will miss you and your cooking very much. We dedicate this ECHO to you as a token of our appreciation. 1. The Sprehn Family: Elaine. Ron. Morrie. and David. 2. Elaine’s last day at work, her birthday. 3. Hard at work. 4 Mrs. Sprehn was honored at our Awards Assembly. 5. Missing from the picture: D. Lawson. ECHO STAFF With the double task at hand of finishing the 1984 ECHO, as well as beginning the new 1985 yearbook, this year’s ECHO staff had their jobs cut out for them from the very beginning. Facing the additional prob- lems of a shrinking staff and diminishing funds only made the remaining staff members more determined and dedicated than ever before. The results of their efforts was the completion of not one, but two excel- lent yearbooks for Bangor High School. 6 Putting a yearbook together involves more work than simply taking a lot of pictures. The people on our staff put in more than their share of long hours and hard work. 7 FUTURE HOMEMAKER OF B.H.S. ... ??! L. to R. Row 1: J. Beron, K. Schmitt. Row 2: L. Ruedy, C. Shaw. T. Schmitz. J. They had FHA Week” which consisted of selling carna- tions for Valentine's Day, holding a Red and White Day, and hosting the “Teenage Pregnan- cy Awareness Conference. The Teenage Pregnancy Conference was our most productive project. Many young women came in and told the school about how they felt about becoming pregnant in High School. After that general session, every class went to two additional sessions to learn about different teenage problems. 8 from left to right; Mr. Tucker. C. Clements, L. Arndt. J. Langrehr, D. Servais, M. The Banquet was a success with many of the members receiv- ing recognition for their accomplishments. A dif- ferent note to end the banquet, the three senior girls, Janet Langrehr, Cis Clements and Laurie Arndt, presented gag gift to the seniors. And Doug Servais and mike Pfaff, were both re- cipients of the State Farmer Degree. Much thanks is given to Mr. Tucker for all of his hard work and dedi- cation. For all the years of his enthusiasm en- couraged many to strive to the top in all activities. 9 SPEAKING OF SPEAKING . . . Row 1 (L to R): D. Gunderson. S. Herman. B. Hansen. J. Servais. L. Swiggum. For the first time Bangor had play-acting groups and it was the first time that they sent as many people to state as they did. A lot of hard work had gone into preparing, but it payed off as all students did a super job at all levels. State Group Top (L to R): D Lawson. D. Lawson. S. Ashmore. P. Craig. Upper Middle: L. To hold with tradition, they sponsored the Winter Homecoming. It was held in the Elementary School gym, and was deco- rated in purple, blue, and white to match the theme song, “You’re the Inspiration.” The music was provided by Chugger, Inc. They also held a 50's-60’s dance in High School gym to raise money for the Math and Science Scholarships. Music was provided by Mr. Stekel, and some entertain- ment was also added by having four local businesses do air bands. Both evenings proved to be very successful. ii THE SIFTED GIFTED Badger Girls State Representatives Linda Swiggum. Angie Kinstler. (Alternate), and Mary Hansen. The Badger State Representatives were selected by the teachers on the ba- sis of excellence in leadership, scholastic interest, character and fitness. They at- tend a university campus for a week, where they attend leadership seminars, and participate in election campaigns. This year’s High Quiz Bowl team, cho- sen through tryouts by Mr. Cullen, gave a valient effort against last year’s champi- ons, Osseo-Fairchild. Nice job! SPAGHETTI SUPPERS AND MORE The B-Club was active this year in several ways. During the Volleyball Regionals they sold concessions. Their annual spaghetti supper was held in late March at the Elementary School gymnasium and was very well-attended. With a portion of the funds that they raised, the B- Club purchased additional weights for the weight room at the High School. Plans are still under consideration for the remainder of the funds that they have raised during the school year. 13 Members of the B-Club who were not available for the group picture were: T, Antony. The 1985 season was one of hard work and ac- complishments for the Bangor High School JV Girls' Basketball team. Through the expert coaching of Miss Cheri McHolland, the girls became a tightly-knit group to whom teamwork was an important asset. Being a small team worked to their advantage since each member of the team was a capable player. In fact, two players, Kelli Stintzi and Lori Freit, also played for the Varsity squad. Their season record of 12 and 4 illustrates just what hard work and a high level of team spirit can accomplish. 35 L to R. front row. T. Hansen. J. Krueger, F. Johnson. C. Wells. S. Niedfeldt, T. And also that of having a different coach to get use to. But these 11 wrestlers made B.H.S. very proud with their placings at tournaments with such a small squad. These wrestlers had to put up with COLD buses and many other distracting people! The statisti- cians for these mat men were Janet Langrehr and Me- lanie Sommerfield. This Team of hard working men de- serve much recognition. J6 WRESTLING MANIA WIPIQNSHI Dave Schroeder, Todd Swensen The JV this year was small, but they proved that small can be still powerful. They supported the varsity teammates greatly. This year the squad of both varsity and JV had a tough season but showed everyone how good they could wrestle. The 1983 King and Queen were Paul Freit and Dawn Langrehr. This homecoming was a little different then ones from the past as the class picked the girls and the football team picked the guys. Then the whole school voted on the king and queen. Also the deco- rations for the dance were nothing less then unusual- ly. But never the less cute!!! 44 HOMECOMING WEEK The Football Homecoming week was a big success. Some of the biggest high points were the Homecoming parade and Fun Night. Fun Night consisted of an air band competition that many people participated in. There was also a competitive spirit between classes with relays and pudding-eating contests. The week was topped off with a bon fire and the announce- ment of the king and queen. 45 M A S H B.H.S. put forth yet another great play this year. In the fall of ’84, the Senior High presented a play version of the popular TV series M A S H . It was directed by Mr. Dan Lee, and the stage setting was designed and built by Mr. Jim Romskog and his stage crew. 1. Tom's listening for worms again. 2. I didn't say Simon Says. 3. Hey. Mom! The Student Council had a different task to put on this years Homecoming. The Dance was held at the Elementary. It was a success though. The D.J. was Chugger Inc. 49 I CANT FIGHT THIS FEELING Prom Court L to R: D. Stanhope. D. Knudtson, B. Craig. A. Kinstler, M. Elliott. M. Hansen, M Leis, A. Novak. 1984 Queen I. Arndt, Queen M. Sommerfield, King J. Krueger. 1984 King S. Niedfeldt. L. Jerome. M. Pfaff, L. Neidteldt. K. Borreson. S. Everson, J. Anderson. This year's Junior class reflected the cur- rent trend by getting back into the formal Prom tradition. With pastel streamers en- closing the dance floor, and the music pro- vided by Gogi's Musical Wheels, the atmo- sphere was set for the Prom theme. I Can't Fight this Feeling. The highlight of the even- ing was the crowning of Queen Melanie Sommerfield and King Jeff Krueger by last year's royalty. Laurie Arndt and Scott Nied- feldt. Another earlier attraction was the arri- val of the entire court in two limousines rent- ed for the occasion by the male court atten- dants. The fact that the dance was well- attended is evidence that all the hard work and planning on the part of the Juniors was successful and appreciated by all. 50 1985 Prom King Jeff Krueger escorting Queen Melanie Sommer- field.
