Niedteldt Bangor's FHA had a very successful year. We had a bake sale, a craft show, sold cookbooks, and sold candy after school. This year we had community involvement by taking treats to the Beron’s Vet's Home. At Halloween we made a “Safe Treats” poster which showed ideas for safe Halloween treats, and hung it at the Elementary school. The FHA worked on a point system. By earning points doing all of the activities, you earned some money for the big trip to the Chanhas- sen Dinner Theatre. The 1983-84 officers were: Gidget Krueger - President. Because there were twelve freshmen who wanted to par- ticipate in solo and ensemble contest, the twelve looked at the styles of music that they could do and chose to sing jazz songs. This year we had four stu- dents accepted to the Corian Festival. They were Shawn Irish, Darrin Gunderson, Tammy Peters, and Paula Craig. Bangor also had several people who participated in the state solo and ensemble con- test. They were Mary Hansen for her solo, and the triple trio of Lynda Gjertsen, Tammy Pe- ters, Angela Kinstler, Lisa Horstman, Deanna Lee, Shari Herman, Laura Jerome, Linda Swiggum, and Gidget Krueger. 21 Jazz Choir (I. to r.) Fun night, also went well with many students, faculty, and parents taking part in the fun and ended with every- one crowding around the Bon-fire with the Cheerleaders and Band to raise their spirits. The an- nouncement was finally made of who the King and Queen were: Queen Dawn Langrehr and King Paul Freit. 24 THE BETTER!! The Seniors had asked many other units to partici- pate in the parade this year. Not only to have it last long- er but to have the commu- nity feel they were a part of the Homecoming. Mr. Jones was asked to pull the court members through the parade, with Ray Horstman serving as the Parade Mar- shall. The clowns were a special addition from three senior girls. As the game drew near, the excitement mounted. With four overtimes and the score ending up to be 18- 12 the Cardinals came out victorious. 25 TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART L. to R ; S. Wrestling this year had many successes, with five wrestlers, Mike, Bruce, Tim, Terry and Paul, winning at Conference, and with having Tim Hansen go to State. All of this could not have been pos- sible without the hard work of all the wrestlers and the dedi- cation of Coaches Halverson and Hundt. Thanks to every- one involved, this year was full of satisfaction and pride. 1. Now don't walk away or- nery! 2. What style! 3. No time for napping. Mike 4 Yes Master! 5. Gotcha now. Chump! 6. Friends laugh at your silliest jokes, put up with your worst moods, go along with your craziest idea, and always see the best in you. This year, as the class of 1984 graduated there were many good- byes to be said. But the good-byes held nothing to the HELLO said to the world awaiting the graduates. “As we graduate and go our separate ways I hope my class- mates realize the importance of our friendships and of keeping in touch. Tammy B. % FOOD FUN AND FAREWELL i On May 18, 1984, faculty, ad- ministration, parents and seniors gathered at the La Crosse Radis- son for the annual Senior Ban- quet. After an excellent meal, Scott Stekel introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Cullen, who spoke on life’s challenges. A tape by Sharon Hansen describing her experiences in Brazil was played. Scott Stekel was recognized for being the most dedicated dra- ma student, and Sam Althoff was presented with his $100 prize from the VFW Voice of Democra- cy contest. Students involed in Forensics and High Ouiz Bowl were also recognized, as well as the class valedictorian, Scott Stekel, and salutatorian, Shawn Irish. After that the students took over the show with Jane Mashak reading the class history and Tammy Bedessem, Duane Streeck and Paul Wuensch giving the teachers appropriate gifts. The banquet ended with Shawn Irish thanking everyone for at- tending, and inviting them to graduation. 1. Tammy reads the letter to the bank 2. Mr. Cullen challenges 3. Scott receives the drama award. May 20, 1984 saw the class of 1984 make their final appearance at Bangor High School. The afternoon was filled with many emotions, from being excited to laugh- ing and crying. As they took their final steps in the High School auditorium many of the seniors were nervous, thinking about their future, or just waiting to be out on their own. Speakers for this special event were Scott Stekel, Shawn Irish, Lynda Gjertsen, and Kris Garves. The guest speaker was Mr. Winchell. All of these stu- dents hold many memories, experiences, and adven- tures as they graduate from Bangor High School. SHARON This past year Bangor High School had a student in the exchange program. Sharon Hansen, a Senior, spent a year in Brazil. Sharon lived in Penapolis, Brazil with two families. The first family was the Maschiettos. While she lived there, she attended a public school with a very relaxed format. The second family she stayed with were the Fiuzas. During her stay with them she attended a private school with a firmer atmosphere and a more structured format. Sharon thought that the high point of her year in Brazil was the opportunity to travel and meet other people in different cultures. She found that all people have dreams and ambitions, no matter where they are in the world. 1.
