With Mr. Korb as our advisor, we held our first class meeting and elected officers. Don Manke was elected president, August Zabel vice-president, Sue Arentz secre- tary, and George Stintzi treasurer. Nancy Zinn and Mike Olson were elected to represent our class on the student council. We were duly initiated into the school by the Sophomore Class in late September and re- taliated the class with the freshman return party in November. Monica Niesen represented the class at the basketball homecoming, and Betty Baldwin was an alternate cheerleader. In 1961, 55 of us returned as sophomores. We elected Mike Olson president, Dave Morris vice-president, Monica Niesen secretary, and August Zabel treasurer. Sandra Wegner and Don Manke were our representatives on the student council. This year WE were the ones who initiated the freshmen. Shortly after the initiation party, we invited the school to a Beatnik party suggested by our advisors, Mrs. Cooksey and Mr. Paul. The originality of the theme guaranteed the party's success. Our homecoming representative that year was Sue Arentz, and she and Monica Niesen were on the cheerleading squad. In 1962, we were juniors. Our class officers were George Stintzi president, Dwight Rhodes vice-president, Ann Hemker secretary, and Mollie Garves treasurer. Vicki Cava- dini, Carl Becker, and Mary Halverson were elected as our representatives on the student council. Ann Hemker was the homecoming representative from our class and the delegate to Bad- ger Girls' State from our School. Arthur Fiet and Mike Olson were Bangor’s representatives at Badger Boys' State. Monica Niesen and Sue Arentz were cheerleaders again. One of the most important events in our life as a class was the staging of You Can't Take It With You on April 18, 1963. It was directed by Mr. Thicke. It had been our aim to present a play that would be long remembered in Bangor, and in spite of a drumming rain and a power failure, it was a hilarious success. Mr. Kreunen, our class advisor, guided us thru our junior prom on April 27. We chose Misty as the theme, and hoping to continue our reputation as a unique class, we decorated the gym beautifully but inexpensively. The prom was an artistic and monetary success. King Jack Cavadini and Queen Sherry Knudtson reigned over the dance along with the members of their court: Sue Arrentz and Don Manke, Mary Halverson and Larry Dessner, Gloria Hass and George Stintzi, and Vicki Cavadini and Carl Becker. 1963 - -And now we are seniors! Gary Jones was elected president, Arthur Fiet vice- president, Carl Becker secretary, and Don Manke treasurer. August Zabel and Monica Niesen represented us on the student council, and Mike Olson headed the council as presi- dent. Our advisors were Mr. De Long and Mrs. Wetzel. Seniors were active in a number of school activities. Sue Arentz became editor of the annual; Monica Niesen was head student librarian and assistant editor of the CARDINAL TALES. Vicki Cavadini took her place as Bangor's first football homecoming queen on October 6. Sue Arentz and Monica Niesen were cheerleaders. On November 7 8 we clinched our reputation as Bangor’s unique class by presenting a musical comedy Annie Get Your Gun. Mr. Thicke directed the play, and Mr. De Long and Mrs. Schaller directed the band and chorus. The play was seen by over 1500 people and grossed over $1200. The manager of the Mary E. Sawyer Auditorium in LaCrosse stated publicly that it was the best amateur performance I have ever seen anywhere. Bill Mann of WKBT stated on his news program, The Bangor High School production of 'Annie Get Your Gun’ has been acclaimed as the finest non-professional performance of a play ever given in this area. With this success still in mind we look forward to the culminating events of our senior year which have not yet taken place, but which will be happy memories by the time this is printed. We are anticipating the annual Senior Christmas Party, the announcement of valedictorian and salutatorian, our class trip, our senior banquet, baccalaureate services, and finally on May 28 our graduation, when we will take our places in the world as members of new groups and different classes, but never forgetting the fun, the work, the heartaches, and the successes of our four years together as the Class of 1964. 17 SENIOR HOROSCOPE NAME FAVORITE EXPRESSION DENNIS ANDERSON Where we going? The weeks spent practicing for our musical, Annie Get Your Gun, really paid off, for it was estimated that 1500 people at- tended the three performances. At the final performance Nancy Zinn, who did a marvelous job in her title role, received for herself and the Senior Class a large spray of flowers from some friends of West Salem. Mr. Thicke, our director, should especially be thanked for all the hard work and endless hours of planning and for the fine ac- companiment he did for our successful play. For this unusually large undertaking, we called on a professional from La Crosse to do our lighting and sound which definitely added to the results of Annie Get Your Gun. We feel that we as seniors of Bangor High School have helped our school to enjoy new and better plays and brought a Coulee Region fame to Bangor by producing the finest play of all— Annie Get Your Gun. 42 Telegrams, letters, and flowers of con- gratulations. “YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU” JUNIOR CLASS PLAT After many hard hours of work, Mr. Thicke and Berdine Olson take a few minutes to look over the results. --CAST-- Penelope Sycamore . . .
