English Stressed to Meet Need English was stressed to meet the needs of each individual here. In English they increased their skill in both writing and speaking. They also studied English and American Literature. Eng- lish also stressed individualism. Students were encouraged to do their own thing and be them- selves. 22 English

Debate This year’s Debate team consisted of nine students who participated in various class activities and out of class tournaments. The class, instructed by Mrs. Moser, prepared the students in the areas of public speaking, organiza- tion, and debate procedures. The De- bate team ventured to tournaments at Appalachian State University, St. Stephens High School, Davie High School, Freedom High School and the State Tournament. Michael Woods received a speaker award at the Appalachian Tourna- ment. Ben Ramsey and Tripp Ville- magne received a third place novice division trophy at the St. Stephens Tournament.
