Child Care Meant Learning At Bandys we were fortunate to have a Child Care Center for a second year. Here students got the opportunity to work with children as they learned about their habits and behavior. They learned to care for them and to discipline them. They taught and loved each one. It was a good experience for everyone who took the course. The center also benefits the children. It prepared them for kin- dergarten and elementary school. It gave them a chance to learn to get along with others not only their own age but adults as well. It was an enjoyable experience for all students and children. Ag Is More Than Farming The agriculture student at Bandys learns about farming — from the fun- damentals of soil judging to the correct method of welding a broken piece of machinery. Yet ag is not just farming. Under the guidance of Mr. R. C. Hampton, his students develop qualities of leadership and increase their competitive spirits. Through various agriculture- related activities and contests, the members of the Bandys chapter of the Future Farmers of America learn while having fun. This organization won several local and federation honors and awards. Last spring they took first place honors in nine out of ten contests in the Catawba Federa- tion. This school year they received first and second place honors for their booths at the Catawba County Fair. They were awarded first place in the Catawba Federation tool judging con- test. In addition. Federal awards were given to them for proficiency in agricultural electrification and agricultural processing. Although the Bandys chapter of the FFA is proud of these achievements, they look forward to further improvement in future years. 30
