Everyone Enjoyed the First Disco Christmas Dance Cold and wet students entered the gym on December 4, 1976 for the Christmas Dance. The coldness soon faded, however, as the atmosphere of the dance took effect. This annual event is sponsored each year by the French Club under the leadership of Mrs. Kaye McConnell. The club was responsible for the selling of tickets, the decorat- ing, and the providing of the music. By a majority vote, they decided to hire a disc-jockey instead of a band. Sandy Beach, a disc-jockey from Big WAYS, provided the music for the evening. About midway through the dance, refreshments were served and Cindy Gilleland, French Club president, pre- sented Mrs. McConnell her traditional gifts from the French Club. During this break, the court was introduced. The court consisted of one representative from each grade, nine through eleven; one from each of the senior home- rooms; and one elected by the French Club. The musicless interval was ended by Sharon Havner being crowned queen. The evening was made complete as the music proved to be superb and everyone seemed enthralled by the dance. 18 Christmas Dance
