Freddy Sharpe scored the first touchdown of the game and of the season with only one second remaining in the first half and the Trojans went on to win 26-13. Coming off a victory over South Iredell, the Trojans faced St. Stephens, their first conference foe. With Ronnie Connor slowed by injury, Steve Howard assumed much of the ball-carrying chore. With a 42-18 conference win under their belt, the Trojans traveled to their next door neighbor. Maiden. Although the Trojans jumped out to a 14-0 point lead. Maiden came back to tie the game 14-14 before the final gun. Returning home after a disappointing game at Maid- en, the Trojans faced the Bears of Bunker Hill. After an 8-8 deadlock at intermission, the Trojans' defense turned in a great second half performance, matched only by the offense, as the game ended 32-8, and boosted the Trojans' record to 3-0-1. The Trojans waited until Saturday night to play Hilderbran, because of the weather. As an impressive defense held the Royals to 20 yards rushing and 91 yards passing, the Trojans' offense amassed over 500 total yards. Ronnie Connor again rushed for over 150 yards and David Mayberry passed for 170 yards as the Trojans won 54-19. In the Homecoming game the Trojans faced the traditionally tough opposition of Granite Falls. Led by Ronnie Connor's 258 yards rushing and Mike Beatty and Freddy Sharpe on defense, the Trojans emerged the victor 28-12. A complete team effort resulted in a 46-0 Trojan victory, in the rain, over Fred-T-Foard High. The Trojans' record was lifted to 7-0-1 and Granite Falls defeated West Lincoln to give Bandys the top spot in the conference. Ronnie Connor scores on a kick-off return. Faking is essential for the proper performance of the offense. The rain again stepped in as the Friday night game with Gamewell-Collettsville was postponed until Mon- day. The Trojans used a balanced offensive attack and stiff defense to defeat the Blue Devils 34-0. With only three days between games, the Trojans faced the West Lincoln Rebels in a game that would decide the SD-7 conference championship. The Trojan defense played its best game of the season, twice holding the Rebels inside the Trojan ten yard line. Joel Berry scored on a 12 yard pass in the second quarter for a 8-0 half time lead. Ronnie Connor took the second half kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown and added two more touch- downs in the fourth quarter as the Trojans won 30-8. The Trojan offense, led by Ronnie Connor and Steve Howard, was given added help from the punt returning of Randall Lowman to compile a total of 68 points against Beaver Creek. On defense, led by Freddy Sharpe and Rick Burke, the Trojans held the Beavers scoreless in a 68-0 victory and the District title. In what proved to be the last game of the year for the Trojans, the Trojans traveled to Mt. Pleasant. Mistakes were costly astheTrojans made seven turn- overs in the 40-0 defeat on a rain-soaked field. The Trojans finished the season with a 10-0-1 record and their second consecutive conference and district championships. Football 87 Rebuilding Season For Boys' Basketball Once again football season extended into basketball season giving very little time for organizing the team. With a shortage of time, only three seniors on the twelve-man squad, and one returning starter, Coach Bost was forced to use many different starting line- ups. It was only a matter of time before the Trojans developed into a team. Eddie Burris goes in for a lay-up. Joel Berry shoots over a defender. Trojans huddle at mid-court. Jeff Sherrill moves the ball down the court. Mi 4 Kermit shoots a foul shot. The Trojans begin a fast-break. The Trojans go up for the rebound. ADVERTISING STAFF—SEATED: Gail Wesson, Greetle Beatty, Carol Schuessler, Debbie Campbell, Sherry Deal, Renee Laney, ROW 2: Glenda Punch, Karen Howard, Vickie Drum, Renee Hoffman, Martha Beard, Sherry Moss, Joel Berry, ROW 3: David Mayberry, Emma Jean Towery, Jane Bolick, Brenda Spencer, Donna Barringer, Terry Hubbard, Steve Howard, Ronald Abernathy. Karen Howard Carol Schuessler Greetle Beatty DELLINGERS' DAY: David Mayberry, Karen Howard, Jimmy Tuggle, Vickie Drum, Sherry Deal, Elaine Seitz, Carol Schuessler, Carol Nuzum, Brenda Travis. NOT PICTURED: Donna Barringer, Martha Beard. Karen Howard, Carol Schuessler, and Greetle Beatty were the top ad salesmen this year. Because of their outstanding efforts, each will receive a free annual. Karen, Carol, and Greetle sold $440, $385, and $345, respectively. Advertising Staff and Dellinger's Day The Advertising Staff and Dellinger's Day played two very important roles in publishing this annual. To become a member of the Advertising Staff, one must have sold fifty dollars worth of ads. Each year Mr. Wayne Dellinger offers Bandys' Seniors an opportunity to raise funds for the annual. Students worked in the store for one day and thus the annual was given a percentage of the total sales for that day. Without the help of these two groups, the publication of this annual would not have been possible. You decide your destiny. The world is a looking glass, and gives back to every man the reflection of his own face. Frown at it and it wiirtn turn look sourly upon yoti; laugh at it and 'with it, end it is a jolly kind companion. - ThaCkery — Vanity Fair— ■ - . In Memory Of Mrs. Jackie Moring Slaughter Melba Rena Sherrill August 9, 1954 — February 18, 1972 March 13. 1954 March 9. 1972 Sunset and evening star. And one clear call for me! And may there be no moaning of the bar. When I put out to sea. But such a tide as moving seems asleep. Too full for sound and foam. When that which drew from out the bound less deep Turns again home. Crossing The Bar Twilight and evening bell. And after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell. When I embark; For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have crost the bar. Alfred Lord Tennyson
