French I, II, HI Math French Club FRENCH Intertwining the French and English people is the study of the French language. Those who enter this class will return with a broader understanding of France and its people as well as the French language. Correct speech, correct grammar and the knowledge of their customs and traditions come from the study of French. Parlez-vous francais? Charles Mackie listens to French tapes. Aleta Hubbard and Renee Bost fix a bulletin board in French. Figures, terms, and equations are the basic elements in the world of Room No. 9 and Room No. 10. Canceled terms are undesirable and your homework is a necessity. The Math Department of Bandys is very capably handled by two fine teachers. A knowledge of math is certainly essential and after leaving Room no. 9 you certainly know it. MATH The slide rule is used often by Advanced Math students. A vital part of our English includes literature as well as grammar. The Seniors are involved in the study of Canterbury Tales and the Elizabethan Period. The Juniors stay at home with American Literature. Sopho- mores go around the world with World Literature. The Freshmen learn unfamiliar grammar rules. All this is intermingled with the proper way to speak and write which is accomplished through the study of grammar rules. All of this makes up the four required years of English. 94 SCIENCE Dissecting frogs, mixing chemicals, and working problems are parts of biology, chemistry, and science. The Freshmen learn the beginning principles of the scientific world. Learning about living organisms is the goal of the Sophomores. Juniors and many Seniors mix chemicals and solve equations in their search for further knowledge in chemistry. MR. EVERETTE CALDWELL Wake Forest College Lenoir Rhyne College Duke University A. B. The beginnings of civilization, through the Dark Ages, up to the present day are revealed in World History. U.S. History is a requirement for all Juniors, while Civics, World History, Economics, or World Geography is optional. Civics students find the principles of our government very interesting. Each of these subjects expands our knowledge of our country and others. Another World Week. Dwight Bell points out Italy to the World Geography class. 98 MRS. CATHERINE HARRIS Lenoir Rhyne College B. Home Economics, Agriculture, 1CT, and Carpentry classes are included in the vocational training of many young men and women. Home Economics is offered to Freshmen and Sophomores, but some Seniors are also included. These girls are taught the principles of sewing, cooking and proper care of your family. Boys may take agriculture, proper farming aids, and car- pentry. The boys taking carpentry learn about many new tools and how to construct different types of structures. Dellinger’s Department Store gives the Seniors of Bandys the privilege of working one Saturday each year to raise money for the annual. As well as raising money, these students enjoyed their work and learned some principles of being good salesladies and salesmen. Without the help of these energetic boys and girls, the publication of the annual would have been impossible. 133 DELLINGER’S DEPARTMENT STORE Newton, North Carolina Open Friday night until 9 P.M. Free Parking Through the courtesy of Dellinger’s Department Store, Saturday, November 16, was designated as Bandys High School Day. A percent of the total sales was given to Bandys High School to help publish its Yearbook. 134 CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SENIOR CLASS OF 1969 HERFF JONES COMPANY Mr. D. W.
