THE 1968 TROJAN PUBLISHED BY THE SENIOR CLASS OF BANDYS HIGH SCHOOL CAT A WBA, NORTH CAROLINA “You’ll Never Walk Alone” Editor-In-Chief Literary Editor Layout Editor Sponsor........ . . . . You’ll Never From the time the 8:25 bell rings for homeroom until the last bus has left in the afternoon. Bandys High School is a burst of constant activity. It is a scene of questions, adventure, and growing up. The excitement of new friends, the frustration of unending assignments, and the challenge of numerous exams arc all steps in gaining knowledge and maturity. Walk Alone Everything is more meaningful when shared-our joys and our disappointments. The harmonious yell of victory at a ball game, the silence of finished midterms, and the melancholy feeling of defeat are all sentiments experienced by each of us. As each of us at Bandys share these feelings, we discover again and again, that whether with God or with our friends . . . You’ll Never Walk Alone. S2v We Dedicate We, the Senior Class of Bandys High School, wish to dedicate the 1968 TROJAN to one who has been a friend in times of trouble, an inspiration in times of need, and who has shown the students of Bandys a true display of sportsmanship. Seldom does one find within the confines of a single personality the unbeatable com- bination of remarkable physical stamina, competent teaching ability, and genuine interest in the student that characterize him. His boundless energy, pleasing sense of humor, and knowledge of athletics enables us to call him Coach” with pride. We salute his contributions to our school and community as a coach, instructor, and individual. With pride and honor, we dedicate the 1968 TROJAN to....... Dear Seniors: As you look through this annual, 1 hope you will have many pleasant memories. As the years go by, you will come to realize that high school days are some of the happiest days of your life. We have tried to help you young men and women find the fields to which you are best suited and have given you the best training we could to prepare you for entering these fields. You have also received a secondary kind of education even though you have never been enrolled in a course so labelled. I rom everyone around you, you seniors have been learning all your lives to be concerned with others. Do keep working toward the goal you desire, but it will not bring you happiness unless you have found happiness along the way. You will help determine the kind of future you face. Glenn A. A final glance ... a fond farewell... and a stepping stone into the future. . VST' 1 ■ • A«iii. ifltt. r ... ;. _ ... A Word from the Editor In April of 1967, the staff of the 1968 TROJAN be- gan work on this, the 14th volume. Much time, effort, and imagination went into putting this book together. However, this annual would not have been possible had it not been for the combined effort of many people. I attempted to express my deep appreciation to these people during the past year, but now, 1 would like to publicly say a special “Thank you” to everyone who helped bring this annual into being: to Rita Smith and Linda Garrison, who worked so hard and accomplished so much-much is due them and 1 can never begin to repay them; to Elaine Isenhour, who did such a won- derful job on the sports section; to Wanda Moose, John Cutchin, and their staff for getting the money, without which none of this would have been possible; to the proofreader and secretary. Jill Buff, and the treasurer, Judy Robinson, for numerous duties performed; to the typists for the wonderful job they did; to the circu- lation managers for selling the annuals; to Mr. Hilde- bran and Mr. Sigmon for taking hundreds of pictures; and to the student body for their constant co-oper- ation and enthusiasm. But most of all, 1 want to say a very special and heart-felt “Thank you” to Mrs. Harris, our advisor and sponsor. Her advice, unfailing encour- agement, infinite understanding, and warm smile have been my mainstay during the past year. 1 only hope she is proud of this annual. This book may be called a book of memories. The steps we take day by day lead us from experiences to memories. These memories become more vivid to the seniors as graduation draws near. Remembrances of the games, the pep rallies, the classes, and the many happy events that filled our school days with variety and our hearts with laughter seem to come alive as we realize that.our days at Bandys High School are nearing their close. Soon, we will leave this place which has been our shelter and guide for four years- four years that were sometimes tedious, always wonderful. Soon the sounds we know so well will be but echoes, and the sights we have grown accustomed to will be only memories. But these echoes and memories are the things dreams are made of and hopes are built upon. You underclassmen who have days and years left here at Bandys-collect these memories. We have collected them for four years and soon they will be all we have of Bandys High School. As seniors, we must look to the future. In looking to the future, however, we refuse to forget the past. You hold in your hands the 1968 TROJAN. It is a symbol of a year, a book of people and events. If we have caused a smile or a tear or revived but one mem- ory, then we have accomplished our goals. Our efforts were worthwhile. And now. as the school year comes to an end, 1 leave you with every good wish and hope for the future and the assurance that “you’ll never walk alone.” A dvertisements Roger Helderman Janie Pope Wanda Moose Reba Moses Pam Little Patsy Loftin Kay Queen Spencer Sigmon 137 Linda Garrison Elaine Isenhour Carol Mackie Alice Lou Mundy Rita Smith CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SENIOR CLASS OF 1968 HERFF JONES COMPANY Class rings, invitation, caps and gowns Mr. D.
