y BY THE SENIOR CLASS OF BANDYS HIGH SCHOOL THE 1965 «WORD As we reach our goal of graduation, we Seniors are beginning to realize that our days at Bandys are numbered. Cherished thoughts are many as we recall this memorable year, 1965. It has been a year filled with moments of laughter, excitement, friendship, and study. Although many of these moments may seem insignificant, they are the things which have made this year memorable. Soon, for the last time, we will appear as the star performers from Bandys High School. The final curtain will go down. We will take our bows. The great play on which our lives have been centered for the last four years will be over in a single night. Some of the actors, weary of the demanding schedule, are thankful that the end is near. But whether it is with quickened step or with reluctant tread that we leave, we will never forget. THAT WONDERFUL YEAR Administration Classes Activities Features Athletics Advertisement SOCIAL STUDIES Shirley and her committee are presenting a report on Natural Resources to their Economics Class. Miss Messick teaches her civics class the duties of all citizens. Mr. Foster illustrates important facts by the use of films in his World Geography Class. Mathematics makes us think! think! MA THEMA TICS Mrs. Hoyle's helpful explanations make it easier for stu- dents to understand geometry. think! Mrs. Hoyle, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needs it. 7 B USI NESS First-year typing students overjoyed with no home- work, bewildered when a finger gets caught between the keys. The Mathematics and Eng- lish Departments have of- fered a new course to broaden the curriculum of many high school students. With Mrs. Harris's helping hand these girls will become our future secretaries--good ones too! SCIENCE Science, so important in our world today, teaches us new horizons of learning. Mr. Caldwell is wondering if the building will still be standing at the end of this chemistry period. Biology holds a special place in the hearts of those who love to disect worms, frogs, and grasshoppers. Mrs. Kennedy and her Sophomore English class dis- cover new adventures through their study of American Literature. An accelerated English Class stimulates the interest of those who are planning to go to college. 10 LANGUAGE Mrs. Gibson has become famous for her numerous tests. These freshmen are finding that high school English presents a new chal- lenge. These girls are learning one of the many arts of a good home economist-- Sewing. HOME ECONOMICS AGRICULTURE This department does much to keep up and beautify our school grounds. In recognition for his loyalty to the student body . . . in respect for his joyful victories and his gracious defeats . . . in appreciation of his warm friendship and capable leadership . . . for his unfaltering faith in Bandys High School . . . and in sincere regard for a devoted coach and teacher . . . we gratefully and proudly dedicate this, the 1965 TROJAN to Mr. Richard Whitis. 14 SECRETARY: Mrs. Bobby Moss SCHOOL BOARD: Mr. Fred McRee, Mr. Reed Davis, Mr. Joe Johnson Everette Marion Caldwell Biology Chemistry Emory Carpenter Economics Sociology U. THE CLA SS OF '65 As time draws nearer for our final parting, In a group we stand in sorrow, To say good-by to Bandys High, While looking ahead for every tomorrow. By the uniting of Sherrills Ford and Balls Creek, In the ninth grade we all did meet, Many names and new faces we all did seek, To make friends that could not be beat. In the tenth grade we all felt so grown, Not to be called Freshmen again, The time went so fast it must have flown, For we must earn our own living the best that we can. Our teachers who stood by us for twelve long years, Don't understand that we've appreciated them, With all the mischief we've done to the dears, We hope they don’t think of the years as so glem. Yet, down life's lonely path we trod, And recall this year of '65, Then, with a tear we say good-by, And will love you until we die. MOTTO: Make the best of what you have before asking for more. COLOR: Green and Gold Linda Byers Class Poetess 123 The F.B.L.A. presented Mr. White a fruit basket for Thanksgiving. Miss Fulbright, Bandys new practice teacher, from Appalachian State Teachers College. This is one of the ways the seniors raised money for the annual.
