We hope we leave a mark of greatness we hold dear. Fond memories will linger among our cherished dreams And follow us ever in planning out lifes little schemes. We play the games and had the fun throughout their years And yet we leave old Bandys Hi mid tears and cheers; But as we drift in various fields what ever we may do- We’ll nev’r forget our loyalties to you. SENIOR CLASS POEM The heart remembers everything Although the mind forgets -- The raptures and the agonies, The hopes and the regrets. The heart remembers May When the curtain begins to fall-- Hearing on the sighing wind The saddest song of all. When Youth has had its shining hour And Love its golden day, Time may fade the colors And the glory turn to gray; But something of the magic lingers, Never to depart, Deep down in the secret places Of the young heart. We think we have forgotten. But the heart remembers all. Suddenly, some strange and lovely Thing it will recall-- Something that was buried Long ago and far away; A classmate, a friend, or melody, A dream of yesterday. MISS NANCY JO MACKIE SNAPSHOTS THIS IS This, Seniors of 1956, is your school life. As I, the book of your high school life, I want to help you relive the years between September, 1 952, when twenty-eight freshmen entered high school at Sherrill’s Ford and fifty-six began the journey at Balls Creek, and May, 1 956,when 54 of those same people stood at the stage to receive that long-awaited award, a high school diploma. Can you.fellow classmates, recall two voices from your freshman year? They are voices that were to become very familiar to you dur- ing the next two years. Yes, they are the voices of our principals, Mr. T. M. Lutz and Mr. J. A. Kiser. If you listen closely you can hear, too, your own rather childish voices as you took part in the varied activities of school life--sports , clubs, and, of course, classes. In 1 953 you began the year as sophomores, and, as the days went by, your goal began to loom clearer to you as you realized that at the beginning of the next year you would become juniors. When that time came, you did not return to Sherrill’s Ford and Balls Creek. Instead, you went to Bandys-the new, consolidated school. Do you, Seniors , recognize t h i s voice: 'Attention please, the menu for today is-- ’? Of course, it is the voice of Mr. William L. Guy, Princi- pal of Bandys High School, under whose leadership you were to complete your high school career. There were fifty-six of you that year, and as class officers you elected: Clay Williams, president; Nancy Jo Mackie, vice-president; Sondra Drum, secretary; Daniel Huffman, treasurer; and Kerin Drum, song leader. Even though you had come from different schools , you soon develop- ed a feeling of unity with the help of your teachers. As juniors one of your many responsibilities was the Junior-Senior Banquet. You had the fun of giving the first seniors at Bandys High School a banquet. Then came one of t h e biggest moments of your school life. In Au- gust,1955, you returned to school as “dignified seniors”--fifty-four of the original eighty-four. This was it, classmates. The end was in sight even though more work loomed ahead of you. You chose your leaders-- Clay Williams, president; Daniel Huffman, vice-president; Mildred Ratchford, secretary; and Lewis Fisher, treasurer. The biggest project of the year was the publication of the TROJAN. Do you remember the many voices you heard raised on this subject? This was the year that saw the inauguration of football into the school program, and then could be heard the cry “Touchdown.” And then, classmates, the tempo of your school life assumed a new pace--oneof hurry and tension--as you became more aware that the end was drawing near. Plans for graduation, for p a r t i e s , and, of course , final exams filled your days. It was at this period of your school life that you really began to ap- preciate what school had meant to you--the sacrifices of your parents, the patience and guidance of your teachers, and the friendship of your classmates. Looking backward, the four years were short years, but years which brought you to that moment when you extended your hand and clasped it around your high school diploma. This, Seniors of 1956, is Your Life.
