Cross Countr Cross Country Reviewed This years Cross Country consisting of Mike Davis,Kathy Vesterby, Dee Staten, Mike Arvidson, Ann Long, and Chuck Hildreth team improved notic- ebly throughout the year. Peo- ple who have never before tried long distance running, tried it and got really turned on. Not because they came in first all the time, but because they really enjoyed running. Kathy Vesterby started out 33rd and moved up to llth. Chuck Hildreth first time run- ning brought him in 34th out of 60 runners. Ann Long made State and beat Coquille's Pat- ty Short. Mike Arvidson star- ted out in the 40's and moved up to 25th place fat districtj. l Ti er Tales Dee Staten ranged from 16th to 12th. Mike Davis had 8th place as his lowest mark and 5th as-his highest. I had a heck ofagood time. Cross Country is a chance to work with good people, says Coach Richard-Handley. As for next year he thinks that we'll have more people. I expect to have a lot of Freshmen com- ing in. I think we'll do better than this year, he said. Next year I also hope to have a three quarter length meet early in the season, and maybe one at the Cranberry Festival. I ,want people to know that there is also some- thing else besides football to go out for in the 'fall, Hand- ley concluded.
