Contrary to popular belief, Iournalism is not a blow off class! In fact, to even be considered for the journalism class you have to be an outstan- ding English student. After you are finally accepted, there are numerous things to be done each week. The two editors for Pen-in-Paw must put their brains to work on Wednesday to find stories to assign to the other students. The stories have to be written, typed up, duplicated, and proofread before they are sent to the publisher on the following Monday. 68 journalism Then comes the annual pages, Mrs. Margie Keese, sponsor, assigns pages and they are due in one month. Although, some times they don't always get in on time! All through the year there are Iournalism meets where journalism students from all different schools compete. They write headlines, feature stories, news stories, and editorials. This year Bandera had three regional qualifiers in the District meet. Melissa Ross qualified in editorials, Toni Byam qualified in headline writing, and Christine Caloss qualified in feature writing. The three, along with four teachers and six other regional qualifiers attend- ed the meet in Kingsville.
