Mrs. Liz Vakey, sponsor, gets into Spirit Week. -- .wi :gt Q 1 fm 3 , 5 Shannon McMullan added style with THE BLUE MAX. - Giving It All We've Got! Throughout the last two years I have learned a lot about dif- ferent things, and without the six of ya'll and Mrs. Vakey I don't think I would have survived it. Run-throughs, pep rallies, camp, and games were just a few things your involvement made possible. The student body can't imagine the work you put in, I realize it, and more especially I thank you for it. Thanks, not just for your hard Work but for putting up with me and sticking to one of the hardest jobs at BHS. Mrs. Vakey, a special thanks for your continued support throughout these last two years. I speak for all of us - we love and appreciate you! Good Luck to the next generation - Toni Competition during summer camp produced many blue ribbons. Contrary to popular belief, Iournalism is not a blow off class! In fact, to even be considered for the journalism class you have to be an outstan- ding English student. After you are finally accepted, there are numerous things to be done each week. The two editors for Pen-in-Paw must put their brains to work on Wednesday to find stories to assign to the other students. The stories have to be written, typed up, duplicated, and proofread before they are sent to the publisher on the following Monday. 68 journalism Then comes the annual pages, Mrs. Margie Keese, sponsor, assigns pages and they are due in one month. Although, some times they don't always get in on time! All through the year there are Iournalism meets where journalism students from all different schools compete. They write headlines, feature stories, news stories, and editorials. This year Bandera had three regional qualifiers in the District meet. Melissa Ross qualified in editorials, Toni Byam qualified in headline writing, and Christine Caloss qualified in feature writing. The three, along with four teachers and six other regional qualifiers attend- ed the meet in Kingsville.
