TO WO DERDOGS . . . an H The untiring enthusiasm of Coach Neuse led the team to a playoff berth, 1. if 9 I M ug' Y' jimmy Sides scores a touchdown. Ending the Homecoming week was the decisive victory over the Randolph Ro-Hawks with a score of 19-15. In the game the Bulldogs put their best effort forward and worked as a team to defeat the Ro-Hawks. This victory marked a first for a Bandera team to beat a Randolph team in 20 years of competition. This win helped Bandera to pro- gress to the State Playoffs where they were to meet Van Vleck. For the first time since 1972 the Bulldogs reached the playoffs and what an exciting game it was. Bandera was an underdog in the game and Van Vleck was picked to blow Bandera off the field. Bandera's defense held Van Vleck to zero points and only 67 yards in the first half as Bandera took 7-O half-time lead. What a surprise to everybody! The second half was a different story as Van Vleck came back with 3:19 left in the third quarter and made a 57 yard touchdown run, after which the Bandera defense fell apart giving up 21 points in the fourth quarter, As freshmen these champions were O-10 but the season ended with a record of 8-3 to show they truly are WONDERDOGS! 1984 football season was a good one for the Bulldogs. They not only got into the state playoffs, but beat the Randolph Ro-Hawks in the package, the first time Bandera has ever defeated Randolph in football. Bandera had many gaudy statistics on offense, and many old records were broken, four to be ex- act. Tim Butler broke the all time passing record for touchdowns by throwing 13 of them. Steve Parker caught nine of Butler's touchdowns to break the record on most touchdowns caught in a season. David Schwarz broke the record for the most passes caught in a game with eight for 115 yards. Sophomore Iames Compton broke the rushing record. James gained 1,646 yards to demolish the previous record of 866 yards by Hubert Risinger. Iames also scored 19 touchdowns. These examples exemplify just what kind of year the Bulldogs had. Together they outmanned opponents and defensively tore them apart. Through the regular season the Bulldogs were 8-2, with their only losses coming from a 35-6 decision against AAAA New Braunfels Canyon, and long time rival BOQIHQ G1'eyh0uI1ClS 9-6. Sophomore Iames Compton breaks for one of his many long gainers. By the expression on Coach Neuse's face and the scoreboard in the background one can tell that Bulldogs were victorious once again.
