HOMECOMING ’78 Still the One” “Still the One was the theme chosen for this year's Homecoming. It was a busy week starting with the traditional pep rally on Wednesday night and with the game and dance on Friday, October 6. Marilyn Bennett and Duane Sorensen were crowned king and queen. A 21-7 victory over Newcastle made the evening a big success. Junior Senior Prom Grand Illusion The Grand Illusion the theme for the Junior-Senior Prom was carried out in the colors of black and silver. The middle of the gymnasium featured a revolving carousel with silver horses. The walls were covered with many different illusions. Silver trees with angel hair also set the mood for the prom. A delicious meal of spaghetti was served and everyone was given a bib to wear. The sophomore waiters and waitresses put on a skit called the Dating Game. Mr. Brinkman, former Football coach, was guest speaker and brought back many old memories. Starfire furnished the music for the dance. 8 9 AWARDS NIGHT Most Valuable Players Kenny Metzger First Row: Glen Tietz- Basketball, Linda Samuelson-Volleyball, Girls Basketball, Girls Track, Ben Kjeldgaard Football, Offensive. After losing all of their first five games, they came back and won the next two games during the Allen Tournament which entitled Coach Lucas and his boys to bring home a first place trophy. They lost their next game to Oakland, which was Coach Lucas' last game. Mr. Carper took over as Head Coach and Mr. Shively came to fill the assistant position. The rest of the sea- son had its ups and downs, and the boys finished with a losing record of 4 and 13. Better Luck next year guys!! % %. Girls Basketball, First Row: Miss Resel— Coach. Fourth Row: Laurie Merrick, Vicki Logeman, Cindy Miller Co-Captain, Kellee Konicek, Linda Samuelson-Co-Captain, Connie Larsen. Girls Basketball showed us quite a season this year, definitely the most spectacular performance that has come from a girl's basketball team out of Bancroft. They started the season a little rough, losing the first game by 3 points and the second by 1 point. The rest of the season had its ups and downs being plagued by illness and injuries. They lost their last 2 games before going into Districts where they got it all together again stomping Macy in the opening game 44-25. The semi-final game against the undefeated Allen wasn't quite as easy, but they managed to squeak past them 34-32 in overtime. They also dished out a loss to the only undefeated team left in the area, Decatur, beating them 31-26 entitling the girls to bring home their first basketball District crown. The Rising City Terriers ended the season for them overpowering them 54-29 in Regional play at North Bend. It was a little disappointing but they've still got a lot to be proud of. They visited the Kansas City Zoo where an ostrich gave us the eye. The Crown Center was an interesting place to go window shopping. On Friday night we went to Worlds of Fun. Saturday evening we left Kansas City to go back to Bancroft ending Sneak Day. Senior Class Will We, the Senior Class, do hereby make known with serious, sometimes malicious, and humorous intent, our last Will and Testament, upon leaving BHS. Being such innocent souls, it has been difficult to find anything to will, but we have managed to find a few. You would do well to listen underclassmen, to our words of wisdom, so you don't make the same mistakes. I, Ritch Lutjen, will Lenn Zuhlke a Mexican wife since he has always wanted one. I, Regina Raasch, will Lee Peterson a Sleeping Bag. I, Jaccie Case, will Teresa Wegner the Penderite position since I don't go there anymore. I, Marilyn Bennett, will my faithfulness to my steady boyfriend to Crysti Lutjen. I, Mark Russmann, will the Juniors all the leadership. I, Pam Bird, will Kim Bargmann and Terri Larsen a position on cloud nine, since that is where their noses are most of the time. I, Craig Gehring, will Dudley Sorensen my wit and charm so that he may make snakehunter of the year like I did. I, Marvin Redding, will Jeff Knuppel a few free Saturdays of work at my place. I, Mila Heise, will Terry Edwards a tricycle to ride back and forth that way he won't lose his license. I, Joe Carter, will Miss Resel a typewriter repairman. I, Scott Newell, will Lenn Zuhlke the ability to ride a wheelie in the back of cars so he can learn how it feels. I, Terry Edwards, will Marv Redding a 64 chevy so he can stop dreaming. I, Lex Lotz, will Byron Petersen a free flight in outer space because I hear he isn't afraid of high places. I, Heath Cornett, will Lenn Zuhlke my brain. I, Lee Petersen, will Mrs. Sundquist my Polish Italian joke book so she can hear jokes from both sides of the family. I, Cindy Miller, will Jeff Knuppel a more shallow ditch to run into the next time. I, Chris Samuels, will my ability to hustle women to anyone who wants to go sexless for the next 10 years of their life. I, Duane Sorensen, will Coach Carper the ability to see somebody else miss a black besides me. We, Laurie Merrick and Nettie Mohl, will Crysti Lutjen the ability to drive without her bright lights on. I, Jackie Gardes, will Miss Hopkins one big Thanks for all of her help with Pep Club this past year. I, Ben Kjeldgaard, will Byron Petersen a hundred baggies. He will find a use for them. I, Vicki Logeman, will the Biology II class a dead cat. We, the Senior Class, will the Cooks another years supply of grease since they have used up next years supply. We, Terry Edwards, Marvin Redding and Duane Sorensen, will Dud a little head to match his little body. We, the Senior Boys, will Mrs. Sundquist a friend since she doesn't have any yet. We, Joe Carter and Ben Kjeldgaard, will our ability to be dedicated to athletics to Jeff Knuppel and Mike Hermelbracht. Good Luck. We, the Seniors, will Mr. Carper a good football team, since he didn't have one this year. We, Laurie Merrick and Pam Bird will our used box of crayons to Connie Larsen to add on to our criminal record. We, the Senior girls, will Paula Knuppel a life-size Joe Carter doll, so she won't have to drool on him all the time. 61 Graduation Scholarships and Awards Vicki Logeman— Valedictorian Cindy Miller—Salutatorian Laurie Merrick—Scholarship to Columbus Beauty College Vicki Logeman—1 year Regents to UNL Cindy Miller-Student Council Scholarship Briar Cliff Scholarship Nettie Mohl Northeast Technical College Regina Raasch—Northeast Technical College Jackie Gardes-Commercial Club Scholarship Nebraska Wesleyan President Scholarship Joe Carter—Kenny Metzger Award Ben Kjeldgaard—I Dare You Award Senior Class Prophecy The year is now 1999, and the Jr. Class of '79 has decided to check up on the lives of the Seniors of '79. To do this, we have had to reach the far corners of the earth to find all of them. Our first stop is in Chicago. Here we took a tour of the Mazola Oil Company, where we discover CHRIS SAMUELS is now President. Over lunch, Chris tells us he still enjoys bowling with his Goodwill bowling ball and bag, and still has his high school average of 105. Chris tells us that somewhere in the Midwest, CRAIG GEHRING is a certified pig farmer, where he is doing a great job raising little porkies. On to Mexico, where we see a fat little man, tending to his beehives, married to a Mexican. After a second glance, we recognize him as RITCHIE LUTJEN. In Dallas, Texas, we stop in at K-MART and to our surprise, we find DUANE SORENSEN working as a cashier. He told us he loves his job there, because the parking is so convenient. While talking to Duane, a strange sight appears in front of us. A maroon limousine with a blue hood pulls up: LEX LOTZ steps out and opens the door for Debi Carter. He is her personal chauffeur, and he tells us he is Mila Heise's personal ? We see a strange, curly-haired woman working as parking attendant at K-MART, and as she approaches us, we notice her as MARILYN BENNETT. No wonder the parking is so convenient, huh Duane? From Dallas Fort Worth Airport, we fly to Germany where the Annual Adolph Hitler Party is being held. We run into MILA HEISE and she tells us she now has her own catering service, and she says this party is the biggest job of the year. Her partner in the catering business is REGINA RAASCH who always seems to get out of the hard jobs. To our surprise, JOE CARTER is at the party in full uniform, showing off his Private E-l Air Guard medals. Due to the Air Guard strike, we are detoured to Siberia. In the streets, we see HEATH CORNETT, being walked by his dogs, still broke and saving for a new car. While we refuel in Japan, we tour an auto factory, where NETTIE MOHL tests bright lights . When asked how she likes the job, she said she was getting rather sick of it. Back in the states, we stop at a Drive-In, where we see a double feature: The Lone Ranger starring MARK RUSSMAN, and Saturday Night Fever, Part II starring VICKI LOGEMAN, side-by-side with Jerry Travolta. Can't do much better better than that, can you? In Denver, LAURIE MERRICK is busy manufacturing Crazy Crutches when she isn't getting bubblefaced on the mountain tops. Lauris told us that PAM BIRD works at a resort, because she was equipped with her own slopes. Experts say they are the best around. At the Denver indoor track, we see MARVIN REDDING conditioning for the 2000 Olympics. He says his fastest time is when Steve Rief is behind him, to give him a boost. After talking to Marvin, we went to a motel for the night. LEE PETERSEN owns it, under the name of Sleepy Hollow . Sitting in the motel, we were watching T.V., when suddenly a newsflash appeared saying JACKIE GARDES was now President of United States. We saw her give her first national speech, and had to laugh because she was still doing her handicrafts. The next News Update stated that the new Evil Knievel has been revealed. Could it be? Yes, it is SCOTT NEWELL. He has already performed once in his hometown, where he did a wheelie on his motorcycle, the complete distance of the schoolhouse hill, with one slight accident, but it was OK, he landed safely on his head. Back in Nebraska, we stop to talk to JACCIE CASE, where she lives on a big ranch, producing “Space Cadets , and having a good time at it. At West Point, we run into TERRY EDWARDS. He has good news, telling us he received one promotion and is now head weinie-packer. While in West Point, we picked up a West Point Republican and now see that CINDY MILLER has taken over Herm's Hotline. We hear, though, the only problem is, she has begun to act just like him. On the way home, we see something in the sky. It's a bird, it's a plane, no, it's Super-BEN to save all the little girls in the world from all boys that destroy the little girl's cars. Keep it up, Ben! Considering what God gave the Class of '79, we Juniors don't think they turned out all bad. 64
