We have to stop meeting like this. Sleeping Beauty??? On May 7, 1973, thirty-two lively Seniors and their four sleepy sponsors—Mr. Mrs. L. E. Anderson, Mrs. Bob Rabe, and Mr. Dale Dinnel met at the school at one in the morning to board the greyhound bus to Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas. The first stop was at Sambo's for breakfast, then on to General Motors for our first tour. Here we saw how they assembled cars. Next we went to the bus depot to change drivers. We then went to the plaza, where most of us ate at a sidewalk cafe. After a quick lunch we toured Proctor and Gambles in Kansas. Here we saw how they filled soap bottles and cut bar soap. As we were leaving, we all received a gift box containing three bars of soap and a tube of toothpaste. Back to Missouri for hours of looking around the zoo and just goofing off. With tired feet we boarded the bus to go shopping and eating before going to the Ten Years After'- concert. At ten we went to the show of our choice. At midnight we once again boarded the bus for the long drive home. We arrived home at 5:30 in the morning, tired, but ready for more action. Don't look now, but somebody's after you. Hey Tom, why are you sleeping on the floor? Wouldn't anybody sit with you? Anybody for a cup of coffee and two aspirins? It doesn't fit us, so who is Cinderella? Could it be Ole? Sponsors Mrs. Rabe and Mrs. Anderson are happy because the day is finally over. SCEt 'U GRADUATION 1973 C. Anderson B. Anderson A. Buchholz P. Kai S. Plambeck J. Tietz B. Browning M, Beutler J. Susan Venncr-treasurer, Debbie VanKirk-sccretary. and Laurie Dabcrkow-ncws reporter. This year we chose the hard job of selling candy for our class project. We finally sold all our goodies, and made a nice profit besides. As usual members of our superior class, outdid themselves. We congratulate Patty Beutlcr on representing our school in the state track meet. Also, we arc VLR Y proud of our 2 rated in the state baseball team and the LVC champion football team. Hip Hippie Hooray was something really new and different We all had alot of fun and it was a great success. Prom was our main undertaking this year. Finally, after many hours of hard work, we put Pieces of April together, and it turned out great! We started out our busy Junior year with 27 members. W'c welcomed Karla Anderson and Jan Leimer to our class. The election of class officers resulted in our leader-Bcv Schilling, her faithful helpcr-Bcth Daberkow. Jeanne Doht-who kept the records straight. Steve Sorensen-who kept track of all that money, and Sandy Peterson-news reporter. Mary Ortmann and Norm (iehring were our capable student council representatives. VV c started out with two sponsors, but lost Mr Monroe, so we finished the year in perfection with Mr. Urwiler to guide us. Our class was very active in athletics Many people also received honors in music, band, and drama. 23 JR. SMILE. . .YOURA BULLDOG! Pam Wegner, Kristie Macklin, Mary Ortmann, Marlys Leifert, Jenny Munderloh, Queen Barb Beutler, King Delmer Soil, Marlon Vogt, Mark Carey, Larry Gerch, Randy Tietz, Kenny Daberkow. 'Smile. . .You're A Bulldog' was the theme chosen for the 1972 Homecoming. Activities started out with a bonfire on Tuesday night and ended with the game, coronation, and the dance in the gym on Friday, September 29, 1972. The decorations in the gym and on the field portrayed the theme. Even the crowd seemed to 'smile' with us as the crowning of the King and Queen took place and as the Bulldogs pulled through a close game with Beemer, ending it with a score of 18-17. Smiling face on front of the float. Theme was carried out by the float made by the Seniors. Hoop made by the Sophomores. Look at that Chick! ! CHRISTMAS IS. . . Boy those Seniors sure make good punch! I wonder what's in it? Christmas Is. . .was the theme that was carried throughout the decorations at the formal dance sponsered by the Seniors. It was held December 22, 1972 for all students, faculty, and their guests. A gift exchange, with Santa as our special guest, was followed by the dance with The Forte providing the music. JUNIORS: DIFFERENT AGAIN? Hip Hippe Hooray The Junior Class Play proved to be a little out of the ordinary. Hip Hippie Hooray was a far cry from the previous plays put on at BHS. The play is the story of a straight girl who opens a free restaurant for hippies, hoping to find her missing hippie brother. When her money runs out the hippies help out. A hippie happening. People are charged to watch everyday hippie life and hippies are rented out for high society parties, all to keep the joint open. When the rebel brother returns he decides to give the straight life another try. It was a happy ending both on stage and in real life. The play was also different in that every member in the class had a part and many had two. With the exception of minor trouble with an amplifier at the matinee, both performances went smoothly. We hope our director, Mr. Albrecht, was pleased with our record crowd; we certainly were pleased with it and the profits. 29 HONORS Doak Wegner and Duane Tietz--Leading Scorers of Bulldogs Duane Tietz--Boy Stater; Steve Sorenson— alternate and winner of Golden Hammer Award Outstanding Teenagers—Bev Schilling, Duane Tietz, and Mary Ortmann John Philip Sousa Homemaker of the Year--Marlon Vogt Award—Mark Carey RECEIVED Jeanne Doht--alternate Girl Stater; Mary Ortmann-Girl Stater All State Choir—Holly Tonjes PIECES OF APRIL—A This year we chose Pieces of April as our prom theme. After drawing a 30 foot mural and stuffing about 50 million hedges, we were a little tired, but still willing to keep on working. The hidden talent in our class really came through in the decorations. One which truly amazed us all was the large mechanical butterfly. The junior mothers prepared a delicious banquet for us. We chose Laurie D., Patty L., Patty B., Doak W., Merlyn V., and Jeff K., to wait on tables. The program was very interesting and enjoyable for all. The Cheshire Cats of Omaha provided music for the dance. NIGHT FULL OF MEMORIES T d l ' - r I SENIOR CLASS PLAY-BOYS AND Ghouls Together Buddy getting chewed out by his girlfriend, Barbara. The Senior class presented Boys and Ghouls Together on Friday, April 13th. Miss Beal did a good job of directing her first class play. Connie Brehmer and John Venner were assistant directors. The Seniors went all out with make-up, costumes, and props. The play was about hostelers traveling through Europe. They stopped at a hostel for the night and found it to be an old castle, owned by Count Dracula. The hostelers spent the night at a carnival and when they got back they found Buddy just like the Count. Everything ended up okay and the hostelers got out of the hostel safe and sound. Buddy wanting to cry as the count and his wife put the pressure on him. The hard working cast posing for their picture after it was all over. THIRD YEAR. . . The 1972 Bancroft Bulldogs continued their area football supremacy by securing their third straight Logan Valley Conference Championship. They rolled to a 6-2 season record remaining undefeated in conference play for three straight years. The success was due to a total team effort with members of all classes contributing. The 72 Bulldogs were not a great team but a very good team made up of great individuals. Even though it was a team effort, many individuals received special recognition. The Bulldogs dominated the all-conference team with four offensive positions and three defensive positions. Because of outstanding effort by many underclassmen the future of football at Bancroft looks very good! The Bulldogs started the 1972-73 basketball campaign with a rebuilding year a head of them. Losing four starters from the 1971-72 team Bancroft began the season with three returning lettermen and 30 prospects. The early season experience proved too much for the Bulldogs as they had a dismal 3-8 record at mid-season. The last half of the season the Bancroft fans were provided with some exciting basketball as the team went on to complete the season with a 9-12 record. Of the 12 losses four games were lost in overtime. The scrappy Bulldogs finished second in both the Rosalie Classic and the Logan Valley Conference Tourney. Co-captains Duane Tietz and Delmer Soli lead the team in rebounding with 179 and 174 respectively. In the scoring department Duane was the leading scorer with 310 points followed closely by Doak Wegner with 288 points. scm !feS: WE Cedar Bluffs 51 Lyons Si 64 Bee me r 62 Rosalie 39 West Point f 70 Fort Calhoun| Walthill 48 87 Snyder 35 Dodge 84 Macy 96 Jefferson, S. The team composed primarily of freshman and sophomores unleashed a strong display of hitting to defeat Leigh and Dodge in district play. It was the first District title for Bancroft in baseball and the first trip to the state tournament for the school in 12 years. The boys showed ability and determination by fighting and beating Lincoln Pious X. a large ( lavs B school This victory gave Bancroft its first chance at playing for the state championship title in any sport The final game, although full of fight and the will to win. left Bancroft as state runner-ups.
