Although many of the positions were filled by Sophomores and Freshmen, the Bulldogs managed a 5-3 record. The season was high-lighted by a pair of wins over W akefield, a team that competed in the state tournament. All 13 members contributed to the teams success, but some stood out above the rest. John Zwygart led in the pitching department with a 5 and 2 record. Freshman Doak Wegner was the leading hitter with a . 535 batting average. Senior outfielders Jeff Bring and Bob Lutjen turned in fine performances, and did much to help the younger ball players. All 13 ballplayers earned a letter. This should hold a bright future for Bulldog Baseball in the years to come. 'Color the Bulldogs Victorious' was the theme of this year's Homecoming. The activities started off with a pep rally on Tuesday evening—and ended with the game, coronation, and dance on Friday, September 17, 1971. Half-time ceremonies were started off with several songs, played by the band; and were highlighted with the crowning of Queen Jo Lynn Miller, and King Jeff Bring, and the announcing of class attendants. Homecoming activities were completed with a 30-6 victory over Homer, and a dance in the school gym. The royal ride around the park. Isn't it fun, Jeff? They DID succeed in keeping us out of trouble! The Seniors decided they were going to sneak to Lincoln and Omaha, and they did just that. At 5 in the morning, everyone met at the school to head for Lincoln. Greyhound buslines furnished our transportation. Our first stop was in Wahoo to eat breakfast. Then on the rest of the way to Lincoln. There we visited the University campus, the Colosseum, Elephant Hall, and the Art Gallary. After dinner, we toured the Capital and then the Historical Society. When we got back to the bus, two girls were missing, so the rest of us, on the bus went back to the Capital to find the two girls standing on the sidewalk in front of the building. After leaving Lincoln, we went to Omaha to the West Roads to enjoy one of the six shows there. After the show, we all enjoyed steak suppers at the Cambridge Inn. Then back on the bus and on our way home after a long but fun day of our own. Not those X-rated shows now, Melanie! TOUCHDOWN! ! Mark, are you in there?? What's in that can, Jo?! ?
