Undergrad Activities JUNIOR CLASS ° The junior class found twelve in its enrollment, six girls and six boys. They elected Marilyn Ruehling as president, Alice Neel as vice-president, and Carly Nolting as secretary-treasurer. Mrs. Barnes and Mr. Petersen were their class sponsors. The various class members participated in American history, home economics, shop, office practice, mathematics, English, physics, bookkeeping, and typing. Color Day attendants were Carly Nolting and Robert Cook. Cheerleaders from our class were Marilyn Ruehling and Carly Nolting. Robert Cook, David Newell, and Eddie Raasch were lettermen. The juniors journeyed to West Point to County Government Day. Marilyn Ruehling and Robert Ortmann were Girl and Boy Staters. Marilyn also won the Citizenship Award. The Prom theme chosen by the class was Roman Holiday. We enjoyed various class parties throughout the year. SOPHOMORE CLASS Twenty-five students were enrolled as silly sophomores at the beginning of the 1963-64 school term. Their executive branch was as follows: Head Boss - Shirley Ruehling; Second Head Boss - Gene Zobel; Secretary and Penny-Packer - Joyce Tietz; News Reporter - Nancy Zimmerman. Of course, they were all awaiting anxiously to have a party, so they welcomed the freshies at a picnic in the park and then a dance in the school gym. They’ll never forget the mishap Cheerie had at their sleigh riding party. We must not forget the athletic stars in our class. Bert Newell, Dwight Gatzemeyer, and Gene Zobel lettered in football; Gene Zobel lettered in basketball; and Kenny Echtenkamp and Duane Miller lettered in track. A word of gratitude goes to all the other sophomore boys that participated in sports. Cheerie Gatzemeyer, Flora Soenksen, and Nancy Zimmerman led cheers for the boys during basketball season. Janie Samson and Bert Newell represented our class as sophomore attendants to the royal couple on BHS's annual Color Day . All in all the sophomores had a great time this year at parties as well as studying. FRESHMAN CLASS Seven boys and ten girls were enrolled in the freshman class last fall. They elected Paul Manning as class president, Larry Engelbart as vice-president, Judy Macklin as secretary-treasurer, and Nancy Sorensen as news reporter. Their class sponsor was Miss Davis. Color Day attendants for this class were Nancy Sorensen and Paul Manning. Nancy Sorensen was a junior cheerleader. The class enjoyed a picnic and dance with the sophomore class and a gym party of their own. 12
