FARMERS MERCHANTS NATIONAL BANK VOGT’S MARKET RIEF CHEVROLET SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY It is a very nice day today out here at Yucca Flats. I just had a little time off so I just decided to go sit out in the sun. The testing grounds are very quiet today. “Wait!” What was all that racket, kinda looks like a jet circling around. Boy he had better watch out, we are going to start testing bombs any day now. Whoops, here he comes. He’s finally landed. I thought I recognized the pilot and sure enough it was Burton Bargmann coming from Alaska. Burton said that he would give me a ride around the world to see what was going on. I decided to go since I had nothing else to do for a few days. We started West to California. I told the pilot to go over the ocean, we landed at a near airport and went down by the ocean. Who should we run into but my classmate Charles Gleeson. We asked Charlie what he was doing; he said he was a deep sea diver. He invited us to meet the rest of the fellows. These fellows, as he called them, turned out to be bathing beauties. He says his business is very interesting. Well, here we are over the ocean, and landing in London, England. Man, you should see this house. No, I think it is a palace; no, I was right it is a house, but Mrs. Pallas lives in it. Yes, Loretta Neel is now Mrs. Jerry Pallas. As we continued on our journey we decided to fly as far as Arabia and there we would watch the very exciting Harem dancers. Yes, these dancers are very exciting, especially one of them. The only thing different was that she wore glasses and had pigeon toes. Oh, now I know who it is, yes it was Joyce Konopik, We asked her how she ever got a job like that, and she told us that she had become close friends with Jayne Mansfield, and she had gotten her the job. Joyce said that the job was all right but she couldn’t keep track of all her boy friends. As long as we were in Arabia we decided to visit the king of Saudi Arabia. When we arrived we were greeted by 80 beautiful women, who finally led us to the king. Believe it or not the king turned out to be Kenny Lutjen. He was always kind of a romeo in school and I guess he just never got over it. Oh, by the way these 80 women turned out to be Kenny’s wives, and he says it’s about time to start looking for a new one. Three of my six days are up, and here I am in Siam. You should see all the Siamese cats running up and down the streets. Wait, there is a woman watching over the cats as if she owned them. I decided that I wanted to buy one so I ran over to the lady, and who should it be but Donna Kling. She says she has been raising and selling cats ever since graduation. It’s time to leave Siam now and we’re off for South America. I had never seen a jungle, so I decided to spend some time exploring one. We battled our way through the jungle until we came upon a native village. We asked to see the chief and who do you suppose it was but Norton Eby. We asked him what he was doing in such a place and he said he wanted to try something different. Believe it or not he has learned to talk the native language. Finally we are back in the states, Nebraska to be exact. I told the pilot that we may as well stop off and see what the old town looked like. When we arrived in Bancroft, we took a taxi and the driver offered to show us around. After a short time we went out into the country and as I looked over the country side I saw a man and a woman chasing cows. The woman looked kinda familiar, and after I thought a short while I realized it was Roberta Daberkow. She is married and they have started a dairy called Kai’s modern dairy. We are on our way back to the base now, but decided to stop off in Cheyenne, Wyoming and see the Frontier Days going on there. After not seeing a rodeo for some time we decided to attend one that afternoon. Finally after long fanfares they introduced the cowboy as Curley Paulson. I though that I recognized that name and sure enough it was Dennis Paulson one of my old class mates. Journeying back to Yucca Flats we turned down to Old Mexico to watch the Bull Fights. Who do you suppose we saw, yes indeed, our old classmate Yvonne Crowell. She was in the arena and had just killed her 98th bull. Snowball is now the most famous Bull Fighter of Mexico. SOPHOMORE CLASS HISTOR Y The school year opened with twenty-one bright, smiling Sophomores. Four of these cheerful characters are labled with the burden of being the only girls of the class. Out of the eighteen boys, five belong to Boys’ Glee, eight are members of our basketball team, and eight went out for football. Three girls were members of Girls’ Glee, and one girl was a member of sextet and trio. All the girls belonged to Drama Cadets and to Pep Club. Only one sophomore was out for band. On Sept. 6 we had our first class meeting. The officers are as follows: Charles Ronnenkamp, President; Ervin Dixon, Vice-President; Joyce Benson, Secretary - Treasurer; and Judy Benson, News Reporter. On January 15, we were sorry to see that two of our classmates drifted astray. They were Judy and Joyce Benson. This leaves us with nineteen pupils, out of which two are girls. COLOR DAY The students of Bancroft High School celebrated their 11th Annual Color Day on Friday night. February 14, In the high school auditorium. Highlight of the event was the crowning of this year's royalty. Charles Gleeson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Gleeson, and Roberta Daberkow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Daberkow, were named King and Queen. To make the celebration a complete success, the Bulldog quintet downed visiting Homer 62 to 58, in a thrilling basketball game. Each class was represented by attendants. All of them are pictured and identified in photograph, on this page. One Junior Class attendant, Tom Collins, acted in behalf of Gary Simonsen, who was elected as his class representative, but was unable to attend because of illness. As a special highlight of this year’s coronation ceremonies, the former Color Day royalty were invited to attend the event. Twelve of them responded and are pictured on die following page. Tlie former royalty formed a flanking line for the royal procession. This year’s King and Queen were crowned by last year’s royalty. Introductory remarks were delivered to a capacity audience by Burdette Fredrickson, Bancroft’s superintendent of school. He introduced Loretta Neel, President of the Pep Club, the student organization that sponsors Color Day. Miss Neel gave a brief talk on the history of Color Day and the activities that had taken place during this year's big day. Toward the conclusion of her speech. Miss Neel presented a gift to Mrs. Arland Wells, faculty advisor to the Pep Club. Mrs. Wells spoke very briefly, thanking the Pep Club for the present. She recalled to the audience the amount of work involved for the students in presenting Color Day. After die short speeches, die lights dimmed, die drums rolled, Karen Bargmann opened the curtain and the grand procession began. After the coronation, the King and Queen and the attendants were seated on a beautiful throne platform. A huge white heart, flanked by sparkling cupids, nestled against pleated red background, formed the setting. The Queen was presented with a white orchid and each of her attendants received carnation corsages. Each of the girls were given rhinestones and die boys were given the bar and cuff link sets. The pages each received story books. The gifts and flowers were presented by Joyce Konopik and Earlcne Dixon. Miss Donna Kling provided the music for the processional; Arlan Rodick played his accordian for the recessional. He was accompanied by Mr. Louis Wullenwaber. Only the King was permitted to remain on the throne with the girls. The boys had to rejoin the basketball team for the winning game over Homer.
