At this meeting new officers are elected and plans for the coming year are made. This year the Club had an enrollment of forty-eight girls. This is one of the largest enrollments of girls at Bancroft for many years. The cheerleaders wore black skits, white satin blouses and white tights. The outfits were bought from the money in the treasury. The meetings were held each Wednesday afternoon at 3tl5 in the Home Ec. Room. The Pep Club gives its full support to the basketball, football, and track boys, not only at the games, but also at rallies and social affairs. This year the Club obtained a truck to go to Dakota City, At the Cuming County and Logan Valley Tournaments held In Bancroft High School gymnasium, refreshments were sold, the profits going into the treasury for the support of the organization. Tuesday evening, March 12, the Pep Club gave an athletics Banquet for the excellent work the athletes did during the year. Games were played and prizes were given to the individuals with the highest and the lowest scores. i I B hi JUNIOR CLASS PLAY MOUNTAIN MUMPS November 29, the Junior Class, directed by Miss Ruth Pasco, presented this unusual play. The first visitor is Timothy, who intends to foreclose the mortgage on the home, but finishes by marrying Florence. An officer comes to arrest Cal, but is captured by the alluring Sue. Link, who comes to promote Mrs. Chilton to perfect his Gold Mill, gets into enough romance to keep him busy for his life, Mrs. Shotts and her daughter enter like social lions to witness the downfall of the Chiltons but go out completely defeated. A physician comes to cure a case of the mumps, but finds that it is all a trick laid by Peg to keep everyone there and to keep the Chiltons out of debt. n SENIOR CUSS PUY SUNSHINE TWINS April 11, 1946, the Senior Class, directed by Miss Margaret Martin, presented this three-act comedy. Some of their tasks include getting Glen down to earth, making Bebe stay with her husband, Leo Prather, having Norma marry the rich Vail Porter instead of going to Hollywood with Miss Doyle. These are topped off by the daring escapade of having their father, Clint lose his job and thereby causing their mother to be on the verge of collapse. They think he will then buy the greenhouse Mrs. Ellis has for sale but they believe he has $14,000 in the bank instead of only $140. Their clever ideas alvvays get them out of tight spots though, and the play ends with everyone happy except them. Their father got his green house as they hoped but in discouraging Miss Doyle with Norma, they became stars themselves much to their regret. A point of interest was a grass hut in one corner of the room. The tables were placed in the center of the room and decorated in orchid and white. Nut cups were small paper palm trees. Invitations were in the shape of orchids, cut out of orchid paper with white lines drawn. Pineapples provided the cover for our memory booklets. There he had produced a Class B Championship basketball team. At Bancroft the first year he was handicapped by the lack of good material, but in spite of this turned out a good team. Since then he has had better material and has entered into many championship battles. This year his team won the Logan Valley football championship, but were defeated by Emerson last year for that title. Last year the basketball team missed a trip to the State playoffs. They were beaten by Wayne Prep in the District playoffs. This year theywere again beaten in the finals of the district playoffs. In track, which is his favorite, Mr. Terry has also done well. In 1945 he coached one boy to the state half-mile championship. The 1946 season is just beginning, but the prospects look bright. In the few years that he has been here, Mr. Terry has earned the respect of all the boys who have had the pleasure of working under him. He has shown them and the people that good teamwork and good sportsmanship help to win the game. Through these boys and his coaching, the morale of Bancroft and the surrounding community has reached a high peak. 2 ►J ► 3 ► H 5 3 I a F ront Row HERBERT REPSCHLAGER MARVIN WEGNER Herbie Marvie Halfback..............1 End and backfield . . 1 HENRY HAYE ROBERT MOHL Hank Bobby Quarterback f . . 1,2,3 End...................3 BERNARD HEYNE WALTER SORENSEN Bernie Walt Right end .... 1,2,3 Backfield...........1,2 NORMAN STAMMER WALTER VENNER Norm Walt Quarterback . . . 2,3,4 Backfield...........2,3 MYRON VOGT Vogt Back Row Center..............2,4 ELMER LUTJEN GEORGE SORENSEN Lutjen Georgie Center ............ 1,2 Fullback . . . 1,2,3,4 ROBERT TIGHE MARVIN REPSCHLAGER Bob Charlie Backfield ......... 1,2 Left end............1,2 REX ANDERSON Rex Second Row End...................3 JACK SHEMAT DUANE BRAASCH Jackie Braasch Utility.............1,2 End.................1,2 WAYNE HEISE LORNE BARGMANN Heise Bargie Utility ......... 2,3,4 Center .............. 3 These are the first conference winners that Bancroft has produced since six-man football was organized in the Logan Valley three years ago. These boys owe their success to good team work and to the excellent coaching of Supt. Fred Terry. Three boys of this year's team will be missing next season, yet it should prove to be a good one. I I a 1 i i; ■ ii 3 ‘K ► 1 Bancroft Beats St. Boniventure The Bulldog’s first game of the season was played in Columbus, Nebraska, under lights in Pawnee Park. The two teams were very evenly matched and at the half the score was 20 to 20. Bancroft drove over for a touchdown late in the second half while holding the Shamrocks scoreless. The game ended 26 to 20 in favor of the Bulldogs. Bancroft 6, Wayne Prep 25 In the first home game of the season our boys just couldn't get working together. Wayne Prep scored on our fumbles and mistakes. They out smarted us and out played us all the way and the final minutes closed with them in the lead 26 to 6. Bancroft 53, Emerson 6 Due to bad weather this game was postponed until Saturday when, in spite of a soft field, the Bulldogs ran over the Emerson six. The first period started out with a bang, Bancroft getting 21 of their 53 points. George Sorensen was the bright spot in the game getting 25 points. The reserves played most of the last half holding their own with theEn-erson first team. y( 3E Bancroft Romps Rosalie In their first game of the season Rosalie was trounced by Bancroft 55 to 6. Bancroft's firstteam came out with a flying start and boosted the score to a high point in the first quarter. The reserves then took over and carried the game into the half adding a few points. In the third quarter the first team went in again to pile up more points. The reserves took over in the last quarter and ended the game with the unequal score of 55 to 6. Bancroft 61, Winnebago 12 This game was the deciding factor in winning the Logan Valley Conference regardless of the outcome of the games left to play. The Bancroft six made the score 39 to 0 in the first quarter. George Sorensen provided most of the thru s with 26 points. Henry Haye, Marvin Wegner, Norman Stammer, and Bernard Heyne each did their share in making this a victorious evening for Bancroft. Bulldogs Swamp Wildcats 55 to 7 This game was more or less a one sided Bancroft victory. The boys had little trouble in winning because every play that was tried worked qaseptionally well. The blocking and brilliant broken field running of the linemen and backs was excellent. The game at the end of the first half was 40 to 0 with Dakota City behind. The game ended with the score standing 55 to 7. . George Sorensen, the plunging fullback and signal caller for the BuDdogs, crossed the goal line five times to score 30 points.
