Ifatenkamp terminageiil a long and useful career with the Department of Education of the CNY of ha timore, dating back as far as 1917, in the course of which henhad 13999 1635 if' . department head, vice-principal and principal. Having previously directe t. C destinies of the Edgar Allan Poe Junior High School and Patterson Parlg Senlof High School, he came to the Baltimore City College and Baltimore Junior Co - lege on March 1, 1948. Outstanding among his many qualities was the fact that he was a .ll-Iflfief. ln instituting and promoting educational programs. He was gifted w1th.1n1t1at1ve, intellectually scrupulous, zealous, and tenacious in his devotion to his work - so much so that he seemed to live with marked singleness of purpose: the' CX- tension of the opportunity for education to all the youth of the community. Both the faculty members of the combined schools under his administra- tion and the students will miss Dr. Katenkamp sorely. From him came constant stimulus for new interests and activities, ever-ready counsel and aid. His Offlce door was always open. Anyone might enter with his- problems, educational of personal, and feel assured of a sympathetic listener willing to apply his WIS' dom and his work toward a satisfactory solution. This and many other. Of his characteristics won for Dr. Katenkamp the highest regard and appreciation. Everyone who came to know Dr. Katenkamp will feel that death has de prived him of a valuable, sincere and loyal friend. 4 i I WILMER V. BELL, DEAN A.B., Western Maryland College M.S., University of Maryland Dear Seniors, ' I always have mixed feelings when I am asked to say Farewell. I rejoice in your accomplishments and congratulate you on your achievements. I wish you only good things in the life ahead of you. But I also hate to -see you go, for I shall miss the conversation, the problems solved, the ex- periences shared, which have marked your stay with us. I hope that you will retain your interest in the College and that you will let us know about your successes, joys, and in- terests. Best of luck and congratulations to each of you. Sincerely, LEONA S. MORRIS, Dean of Women ADMIN ISTRATIO Members of the Class of 1956: How you've grown! The photographs you presented to us when you enrolled show us what maturity you have achieved. The confident competence you display in handling your academic and extra-class commitments tells us that your increased physical maturity is matched by grow-th in knowledge, responsibility and personal- ity. All this makes us very proud - of you - and of ourselves for our part in helping you. Now that we've grown so fond of you, we are faced with the need to say good-bye. We know that means God be with you g so we can say it with all our hearts. We wish for you every happiness and success in the future. We can beconfident that by continuing the growth you have main- tained here, you will earn happiness through your wisdom, responsibility and altruistic endeavors. God be with you! To work on an annual is to deal in dreams, for if, at some future date, memory proves too faulty, a turn of these pages will provide a pageant of the past and all will live again the days spent at BJC. Yearbook work can be slow and tedious, picture scheduling never ending, layout prob- lems exasporating, and small details painfully exacting, but with the desired goal in view and the determination to attain it, obstacles gisappear with the knowledge of a job well one.
