prologue as Dear reader, we your strict attention ask To this our chosen, true, primeval task. These pagesjhere indited do contain What none of our posterity can feign. For bright as day which now in gayest robe Ascends her zenith o'er the peaceful globe, So Genius fair has waked, awhile to grace T Our work, our book that she has crown'd with praise Led by her guiding hand may then you gain To airy realms access, and not in vain. Like some magician, fraught with potent skill, Who transforms, molds each varied mass at will, Or calls the sprightly forms from lowly birth, And stories bubbling o'er with teeming mirth, The raptured Muse pours forth her noblest strains, Untiring, sweetly sung, varied refrains.
