MUSIC SUMMARY At Baltlc School mus1c has always been cons1dered a subject of great 1m 1 ortance Thzs year we started our schedule Ly acqulrmg a new musxc teachel Mr Kuk land He 1nstructs mus1c for the 7th and 8th grades and the hlgh school He also g1V6S prlvate lessons to students IH the band and also to students vushmg to Jo1n the band Monday Wednesday and Frlday fo1e noons have been set 8Sld9 for rehearsal of the muslcal orgamzatxons The band WhlCh lb composed of 32 members practrces two tlmes a week They have taken part IH the annual Chustmas Proglam the Swlss Festlval Parade the County Falr and the Com munlty Inst1tute They w1l1 attend a mu s1c cl1n1c ID the sprmg The chorus has 71 members and has taken part 1n the Chrlstmas Program and w1ll also attend a mus1c cl1n1c mn the sprmg They rehearse twlce a week and are accompanled by Margene Scheetz Nh' Klrkland also has charge of the Flute Band It IS composed of 3rd and 4th graders and they practxce twxce a week He also derects the Begmners Band whlch pract1ces two txmes a week It IS made up of 4th 5th and 6th graders Eleven glrls make up the h1 h school GIFIS Ensemble They are Nancy Hen dershot Lujuan Mlller Bonme Croft and Georglana Flsher first sopranos Carol Br1nk Lxnda W1ll1amson and Gertrude Ramseler second Sopranos and Rose mary Huprlch Carol Judy Marcella Huprlch and Ba bara Rmehart altos They have appeared at the Chrlstmas and a They Un1on College on March 8th They ale accom pamed by Marllyn Lorenz Program the Farmers Inst1tute Comrnunlty Chrlstmas Program attended a IT1llS1C contest at Mt The h1gh school Glrls Lhorus made their first appearance at Mt Un1on Col lege on March 8th It IS composed of 48 members Mrs Turner has charge of the mus1c IH the first SIX grades She comes to our school on Tuesdays and Thursdays They presented two operettas at the Chrlstmas Program They were called The Shoe 1nake1 and the Elves and The Llttle Sheep of Bethlehem After presentlng these short operettas the group sang Chrxstmas carols A polnt system Illaklng It posslble to earn muslcal awards has been developed farther In order to w1n an QAJ award whlch IS a 6 1nch chemlle lyre one must earn 1 000 po1nts A CBJ award requ1res 800 po1nts and glV6S the student a 4 1nch chemlle lyre A KCJ award conslsts of a 4 1nch velnap lyre 'md requlres 400 points These three awards are based on the attalnment of Sklll and the general knowledge of IUUSIC These p01HtS may be earned by membership 1n the Hxgh School Muslcal Organlzatxons an Communxty Organ1zat1ons such band Church cholr etc Polnts may also be earned by concert attendance mg a scrap book on mus1c and bx helng an accompanlst as Town by mak Geolgx nn Flshex .
