Well, since Res life was obviously a major concern to these girls, this section has been dedicated to them in the hope that we will all gain a little insight. Give us, O give us, the man who sings at his work! Be his occupation what it may, he is equal to any of those who follow the same pursuit in silent sadness. He will do more in the same time - he will do it better - he will persevere longer. - Carlyle The inscription above hangs suitably mounted and framed overlooking the Headmaster's desk in Aikin's House. It was a gift from staff members, the words ringing true of the man who was to guide Balmoral Hall's destiny for a decade - Tom Russell. No doubt the gift was inspired by admiration and respect, but its appropriateness went further, for Mr. RusseIl's dulcet tones could often be heard echoing through the hallways as he went about his daily routine. Here was a man truly enjoying what he did so well- caring for the education of his students. He had that unusual ability to relate to people of all ages and descriptions, from business magnates to Kin- dergarten munchkins lining up for cookies. All were met with a fine sense of decorum, and a lively sense of humor, and were made to feel that they belonged to a special community, the Balmoral Hall family. ln the warmth of his welcome there was no pretense, but rather genuine caring, and an integrity which inspired trust. The hand extended in welcome or congratulation was the same hand which organized and planned the year's events, penned so many enlightening and entertaining Newsletters, and carved the turkey at the Residence Christmas din- ners. lt is now the hand that waves goodbye , and we say goodbye to you, Tom Russell.
