Qilher jiuhilee Earheque QUEEN'S ADDRESS My husband and I wish you, and all mem- bers of the Commonwealth countries, a very happy jubilee Barbecue. This year has been one of both joy and tragedy, and we remem- ber particularly at this time, all those in North Borneo, Puerto Rico, and Flin Flon. 1977 marks the year of my Cherries Jub . . .Silver Jubilee, and I have fond memories of my twenty-five years on the throne-for which I have a new, quilted, silver cushion. People in all parts of the world have hon- oured this event in many different ways- some more different than others. I feel close to you all in Canada, particu- larly with our son Andrew at school in your midst. However, if he does not pull his royal socks up, he will be sent to an ice flow in the Arctic to write the next episode of Upstairs, Downstairs . My family and I enjoyed being with you all for the Games of the Twenty-First Olym- paid, in Montreal last year. I feel, personally, that Anne would have been much more com- petent in the saddle, had she refrained from eating so much French Onion Soup. But, as the Common Market would state-and I quote - C'est la Vie . My husband gives me much pleasure. . . in accompanying me on a Jubilee tour of the Southern Hemisphere, where we saw the u- sual herds of kangaroosg koala bears, and platypus. . .etc. We were proud when we learned that our son Charles has become Chief Crowfoot in Alberta. I do wish, however, that he would refrain from using the Palace curtains as a tepee. Balmoral Hall conjures up visions of one of my homes so dear to me. In the High- lands of Scotland, amid the swirl of the Kilt and the purple of the heather, lies my home at the address of thirty-one, Haggis Crescent, also known as Balmoral Castle. Here I am able to relax and pursue such pleasures as sword dancingg highland fling- ing, and the tossing of the caber. I hope thay you have equal enjoyments here at Balmoral Hall. And now, my children, join my husband and I in wishing you every joy and happi- ness at your Jubilee Barbecue. Copyrightgjane Burpee 1977. QWritten by one who is an ardent admirer of the Queen, her family and all they stand forj.
