In the league they were 4-8. Getting off to a very slow start, the Scotties fought to the finish. Two surprising victories came in the last two games of the year. They beat Gloversville and Glens Falls who were tied for the league championship. Mr. Lawrence said that the fans had a lot to do with the final wins. The people really came out to support us and we were happy that they had something to cheer about. Junior. John Weekly, and Senior, Terry Jones, led the team in scoring. They both averaged around 13 points a game. John was named on the list of top eleven scorers in the Foothills Council. JV HOOSIERS FINISH 12-8 FROSH IN ACTION! BRIGHT FUTURE FOR HOOPSTERS Row l-A. After getting off to a slow start they began playing good basketball. The team did a great job on defense and never gave up in any game. Kris Wachtel and Kelly McWilliams were the leading scorers and rebounders. Kris also served as team captain. Hopefully, with some help from the J.V. squad and the returning players, the Varsity team should be very competetive next year. 117 J.V. WINS FOOTHILLS TITLE The Girl's J.V. Basketball team ended up with an 11-9 overall record. They did finish at the top of the league in a tie with a record or 9-3. They had a rocky start with its non-league losses, but with lots of hard work and determination they finished strong. Many players are coming up from the Middle School and they should have another great season. Row 1- D. Varney, S. VanVliet, P. Berrigan, L. Zawtocki, C. Wescott, Row 2- Coach Fregeau, G. Tanski,, J. Regan Johnson, Joe Gorman, and Mark Carey captured first place in the Saratoga Tournament, and Johnson, Carey, and Mark Little wrestled in the State's Qualifying Tournament at R.P.I. Carey pulled off a hat trick by defeating Jerry Baranska, Ravena, for the third time this season. This sent Mark to Syracuse for the State Championships. 121 JV WRESTING HAS PROMISING SEASON BOWLERS CAPTURE SECOND PLACE For the fourth year in a row, the Bowling team captured second place in the league. They placed fourth in the Foothills Tournament, where Todd Odasz won a trophy for the highest six game score. Their final record was 15-6-3. The top seven averages of the team were: Todd Odasz, Chris Dugan, Jim Ross, Eric Larsen, Scott Dussaulty, Scott Gardner, and Tim Brown. Mr. Brougham commented that eight out of the fourteen players are seniors. Hopefully that will encourage more people to try out for the team. C. Dugan, S. Dussault, E. Larsen, J. Ross, T. The production of Realms of Gold 1987 started over a year ago. With lots of hard work and help from the staff, last year's dream became a reality. We are very pleased with the result of our efforts and we hope you are too. As editor of this book I would like to give special thanks to our advisor Mrs. Iamunno for her cooperation, to Richie Burke for his cover and endsheet design, to Jeanie Lavery, Kara Aunt Jemina Spellman, and Paul 77 Komar for their art work, and to Mr. Perreault, the faculty, and the student body for giving us the support needed to finish this book. I would especially like to thank my friends for being there when I needed them!! The 1987 Yearbook Staff: Crissy Warmus-Editor, Derek Omerod- Sports Editor, Jim Sinnot and Sally Ewart-Photog-raphers, Jeanie Lavery, Kara Spellman, the crazy Komar brothers, Richie Burke, Rita Stahl, Sue Todd, Wendy Lawrence, Sue Thomas, Stacey Horner, Michelle Mangino, Jill Zilinski, Sue Solotruck, and Tim Charlton. 134 . . . REALMS OF GOLD 1987 SCOTTIES COMPETE ON ANSWERS PLEASE In Novermber of 1986 students began trying out for the Answers Please team. After several days of competition six students were chosen to be the representatives for Ball-ston Spa High School. On December 15 the team faced Queensbury. Although they were defeated the team received much support form the student body. Faculty advisors were: Mrs. Balet, Mr. Bouton, Mrs. Davis, Miss. Hoetzer, Mrs. Lico-poli, Mrs. Reynolds, and Mrs. Shepelavy. The foreign exchange student this year was from Australia. Nikki Fowler, a junior came to Ballston Spa in January. Arriving and seeing the snow was very different to her. In her home town the temperature gets to 55 degrees at it's lowest. It only snows in the mountains, which is about 5 hours from her home. Nikki found our town to be much smaller but the school bigger. The school she attended had around 800 students for grades kindergarten through 12. She had been to the United States two years ago with her family. Nikki has one brother and one sister. One thing that she enjoys about the U.S. is that the clothing prices are much lower. She said that she has just about double her wardrobe since getting here. Other than that prices here for food and other things are much more expensive. During the school year Nikki is staying with the Reese's. During July and August she will be touring the country with several other exchange students. For thirty-three days they will travel by bus across the U.S. Nikki has been very busy since coming here but says she finds enough time to write plenty of letters to her friends and family at home. She would like to thank the students at Ballston for helping her learn about our school and town. A VISIT FROM DOWN UNDER BALLSTON'S BEST IN SPORTS Again this year the Ballston Scotties excelled in athletics. The running duo of Mark Lavery and Mickey Thomas brought fame to the school's program. Both boys won national rankings. Over the winter they participated in an indoor track program to improve themselves for the spring season. The Varsity Cheerleading squad won 1st place at the Saratoga Tournament winning 386 points out of an available 400. Senior Chad Maes was the first golfer from Ballston Spa to qualify for the state tournament. He placed 5th. Mark Carey proved once again that the Scotties Wrestling team was great. Four people from the team went to the State Qualifying Tournament. Mark will compete at the State Finals in Syracuse. 137 y f Bor.S feecktr -TEV VlS Jill'tC 3 ocmakcr ) 'en4uf y Mike Tyson-BfljtfAG 0t™r Uack Nicolaus “GOLf Wortina Navratilova “TENNIS Defrt onntr AmCIlSCM IWUGIANTJ (ZXSEE yVXvArrvrrv r i0c axo tv W v aO V t V $ tffcr V « A CO £ T fe iVWA GorWfciv V ____ SvCNr trr'o'a t obW k l','5(or'l'f “A S£KSR« StocV market VjroUt OOD faf r NXO li il '”! 0 ' A«no4-| te'fcTv; Xn.™ LiCon« COSBY SHOW family ties CHEERS joan rivers show DQQ®KTii ©@(SJB‘n’ 6rA‘i?2 QflSSOflt? w,h DAVID MOONLIGHTING L£m«AJAN i aof FoiauME 3o vn McEn C Oe CP Tan4vr i 0Vt J Tor | Dar x OD Trac ) Robinson Arnold ScUwarzene orco MariA, Torw Lee HeaW LockfeJr' Prince Anirew ® SaraW f-tr oion A © © « e waa e • « ® « « ® ®e r c ® m PAi® CRolS Jenny ( poo d Ka + e Smi + h tTed PCn‘i V + Sca-fman© pothers ©dry drand Ray t§)o|gen B Oger @ orne L i b.erac SENIOR CELEBRITIES Sandy Lyall-Best Musician Wendy Davis-Class Flirt Michelle Oppedisano-Winning Smile John Kolburg-Winning Smile Steve Forman-Best Dressed Rick Matteson-Class Flirt Mark Carey-Best Personality Jenny McDonald-Class Clown Ricky Brodwin-Best Musician Rich Ingram-Brightest Future Nicole Knickbocker-Best Personality Kara Spellman-Most Artistic Matt Lyman-Most Likely to be late for Class WHO'S WHO IN '87 Chris Willey - Most Intelligent Linda Thomas -Most Intelligent Cheryl Leanza-Brightest Future Tom Burke -Most Organized Michelle Simonik-Best Dressed Mark Little-Class Clown Paul Komar-Most Artistic Ann Schiller-Most likely to be late for Class!!
