We've spent these past years together laughing and crying through long days and working hard for where we are today. But along with the work we had our fun, in athletic competition, performing a play, the night at the prom, or just partying with some friends. These past years have been the Best in our lives. From our freshman year to this year. We've had many wonderful times together. But where did the time go? The time we spent with special friends, the special ones we must in time say goodby. Although we are nearing the end. We are starting a new future. The bonfire kicked off the festivities two weeks preceding Homecoming. From that night on it was a race to see which class would produce the winning float. Although some confusion was connected with the Pep Rally, it was eventually held. The traditional class colors of brown, red, green, and blue converged upon the gym 7th period, and the spirit contest was held between the classes, with the rather loud Seniors capturing first. The parade began the Homecoming day's festivities. The band led the four classes and their floats thru the middle of town towards the high school. Along the parade route, judges rated the floats in many categories. The first half of the game was not too exciting, but the half-time activities soon turned things around. C.S.L. President Linda Glowacki introduced the Court, Queen and Escort from each class and presented each with a flower. A hush then fell over the crowd as Linda began to read the results of the float competition. In fourth place, the Freshmen, third place, the Juniors, in second place, the Sophomores and the winners, the Seniors for the third time in four years!! The game ended with the opponents capturing the victory, but this did not put a damper on the activities of that night. Over 80 couples attended the Homecoming dance One Stop Along the Way . This was the perfect end to another fun-filled Homecoming. The Cheerleaders led the crowd at the Bonfire. Freida Feldhaus prepares one of many posters for the Pep Rally. The Cheerleaders were often found outside of the Main Office drawing posters. Although the wind blew fiercely, the Bonfire blazed brightly IDHN-DLu 0XT-H Ci 111 Freshmen rolled into 4th place. This year the Faculty Council, along with the C.S.L. sponsored a variety of activities during 7th period on December 23, 1980. Since this was the last period before vacation, the administration decided to celebrate the holiday season by allowing students to enjoy the last hour of school. Various activities were available to students. Movies were shown in the auditorium, the Chorus sang Christmas carols in the lobby near the main office and a band played in the gym. In conjunction with these activities, the C.S.L. sponsored a food basket, where they collected canned goods to be donated to a needy family in the area. This day proved to be a great success and a perfect way to begin Christmas vacation. Miss Lord and the members of the chorus sang for everyone. There was a little bit of Christmas everywhere - even in school. Rick Monsko kept the beat. COUNCIL OF STUDENT LEGISLATORS Each year Student Government sponsors the Homecoming Activities at B.S.H.S. which includes the bonfire, the parade, the half-time ceremonies, and the dance. The C.S.L. also put signs around the school to direct students to their classes at the beginning of the year. At the end of last year the C.S.L. began issuing student, I D. cards. They also sponsored a Sadie Hawkin's Day Square Dance and conducted the Memorial Day Services. A very successful student exchange program was initiated this year with the other members of the Foothills Council by Student Gov't in conjunction with a Leadership Conference of the Foothills schools attended in the fall. Membership in the Council of Student Legislation means being involved, helping out, planning activities, school spirit, and participation. Without hard work of the C.S.L., our school would be nothing more than eight periods a day. 84 Officers — R1: Vice President Wendy Dobler, Treasurer Karen Heggen. PAGE MISSING PAGE MISSING WHO'S WHO Fred Dreher, Dan McGrath, and Mark Coulter Three boys from our school represented the Ballston Spa area last spring, when they attended Boys' State. Fred Dreher, Mark Coulter, and Dan McGrath were selected by the Ballston Spa American Legion post on the basis of their academic record, their service to the community and their extra curricular activities. Our three delegates attended lectures and meetings, where they learned how the process of selecting our officials operates. They were also addressed by the President of Boys Nation from last year. As at Girls' State, the delegates split into parties and formed political platforms and campaigned for their candidates. This was an excellent opportunity to exchange views with boys from all over the state. Sue Dumas This year Suzanne Dumas represented Ballston Spa High School at Girls' State, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. This program is designed to promote citizneship among the young people of today. For one week of intensive lectures and forums, the delegates of Girls' State elect officials for a mythical 51st state. The delegates learn the basic principles of government, by observing first hand the democratic process. Although the days were filled with meetings, time was found to engage in squirt gun and water balloon fights. Friendships were made during the week, and many continue during the delegates' college years. Perreault, G Robitaille I Bowler, T Kelliher, D Hearn This year the Foothills Council sponsored a Leadership Conference at Lake George. This years trip was chaperoned by Mr. Perrault and Mrs. Wayand. Each school in the Foothill sent 10 people they felt were leaders in their school. At the con-fernece, the students exchanged information with people as to how different activities are run in their schools. Lectures and seminars were conducted to help acquaint the students with different techniques on how to run meetings and organize activites. The conference was very beneficial and informative. One of the most important things that emerged from the conference was the new friendships made with students from other schools. Ebert. R2: C. Cooney, V. Demartini, T. L. Zurmuhlen Baker. The production of this year's yearbook began last May with the taking of Senior portraits. Throughout, the summer, planning and preparation took place, with the staff attending a four day workshop at the University of Rochester. Although it was a little hard getting there the trip was well worth it. Valuable techniques in layouts, photography and business management were learned in between water fights. The photography for the yearbook began the third day of school and for the next six months the staff was busy with layouts, obtaining copy and ads. As the final deadline drew near, the staff was in a frenzy, but with persistent work the deadline was finally met and the record of 1981 was finally completed. The amount of hours put into the yearbook are too numerous to begin to count, but with finished product in hand, it all seems worth it. The staff could not have completed this classic without the help and assistance of many people. Special thanks to Dawn Phinney, Renee Schmid, Irene Stack, Gina Schallehn, lohn Bowler, Lauria Vasko, Colleen Welch, Cheryl Senecal, Mr. Soukey, Mark Fleggen, Kim Kenyon and our advisors Ms. Vivienne De Martini, Mrs. Gayle O'Bryan. 171 Hi, my name is Laila Cronning. I'm a Rotary Exchange student this year from Denmark. I am 17 years old and last year I graduated from high school in Denmark. But next fall I will begin in school again for three more years. These three years of schooling are not exactly like your college, but I will be studying on the college level. I like to knit in the wintertime. I enjoyed trying to learn cross-country skiing here in the U.S. this winter. Although we have snow in Denmark, I never went skiing before! The winter here is colder and the summer hotter than in Denmark. The main idea of my stay here in the U.S.A. is to learn the English language and how American people live. I found it very difficult to understand and speak English, especially when I first came last summer. I feel it is a big chance that I could come here, and that I could have the experience to go to Ballston Spa High School. I would like to thank the three host families — the Kings, the Boltons and the Knapiks very much, because I could stay in their homes, which I enjoyed very much. I also want to thank the students and teachers at school who made my American year such fun. FOREIGN FRIENDS Hi, my name is lulio Coelho. I'm a Rotary Club Exchange student from Brazil. I come from a small city in southeast Brazil, Duro Peto. I have seven brothers and sisters. I first came to Ballston Spa in February and stayed at the Monscko's. During the summer I traveled with 250 other exchange students across the United States, eventually ending our trip in California. When school began, I stayed at the home of Paul Sausville, until I returned to Brazil in December. I played on the soccer team this year and enjoyed it very much. I also like to listen to music and my favorite American group is Queen. I enjoyed my stay at Ballston Spa High School and hope to return to the U.S. to attend college. I would like to thank my host families, the Monscke's and the Sausville's. I would also like to thank my teachers and also Coach Banovio. 172 iEaglp fflatt ICn' 7UE PLUE PillL PUP Formally Tiurrr? Companies don't make progress. People do. The people at Schenectady General Electric — key contributors to their company's 100 years of progress — have built more than half of America's total capacity to generate electric power. Fulfilling the vision of an electrically powered society by their Schenectady GE forefathers — Thomas A. Edison and Charles P. Steinmeti — has taken a rare combination of creativity, skill and dedication. Today, Schenectady GE people continue to apply their talents to the electrical needs of tomorrow. We furnish not only the capacity to generate power, but also many of the electrical equipments and services that keep America growing and prosperous. And in our seven labs and research centers, we seek new ways to use electric power even more efficiently and effectively. At Schenectady General Electric, many thousands of people are dedicated to making the next 100 years even more productive for an electrically powered America.
