Presented By CONTENTS FOREWORD STAFF SENIORS CLASS FAVORITES UNDERCLASSMEN ACTIVITIES SPORTS ADVERTISEMENTS Administration Faculty We, the Senior Graduating Class, dedicate the 1965 Realms of Gold” to those who have served us during our school years. Their aid and guidance has been the inspiration of our successes and has given direction to our aspirations. Without them, our ambitions would lie undeveloped, never achieving reality. The type of individuals we will become has been largely determined by the diligence and patience of the Ballston Spa High School Staff. Their work must not go unacclaimed. 4 Kitchen Staff Secretaries Custodians FOREWORD As the co-editors of the 1965 Realms of Gold, it is our hope that this yearbook will perpetuate for you the memories of your years at Ballston Spa High School. It is the aim of a yearbook to serve as a reminder - a reminder of these years that perhaps have held some of the most important moments of your lives. We hope that this book fulfills this aim for you now and m the coming years. We wish to thank all those who have contributed'through their effort, diligence, patience, and cooperation, to a task which at times has seemed overwhelming and impossible. Without their aid, rhe 1965 Realms of Gold would never have been completed. We would especially like to thank Mr. Tcrpenirig, ■ our literary advisor, and Miss Walrpsley, our business advisor, our department editors; Pete Tholl, Christie Blanche, John Randall, Rose Dezzutti, Paula Place, and Judy Zcpko, along with the various staffs lor their industrious service and loyalty. Suzanne Kelley and ixircen fcCinmcutt , Co-Hditors SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS Now, at the close of your career at Ballston Spa High School, let the successes you have enjoyed here and your failures, if any, be lessons that, for the future, will inspire you to always try to do your best in all your work and nothing shirk. uM.i) What is there of significance but TODAY?” - a question too often asked by young adults or implied by their attitudes and actions. It so flippantly dismisses as valueless the YESTERDAY struggles of myriads of our forebearers. Each TOMORROW offers you the challenge to exact from future generations a witness to your contribution to their TODAYS. VICE-PRINCIPAL BOARD OF EDUCATION: ROW 1: Mr. Dodds, Mr. Zepko, Dr. Hansen. ROW 2: Mr. Boyce, Mr. Short. Mr. Coffman, Mr. Eliason 8 Message to the Class of ’65 Owen D. Young, who is a neighbor of ours in Van Hornesville, has said: “What I am concerned about in this fast- moving world in a time of crisis, both in foreign and domestic affairs, is not so much a program as a spirit of approach, not so much a mind as a heart. A program lives today and dies tomorrow. A mind, if it be open, may change with each new day, but the spirit and the heart are as unchanging as the tides.” Mr. Young is emphasizing here the importance of spirit and heart. During your years here in school we hope that you have built a good foundation in the tool subjects such as mathematics, science, and language. We also hope that you have acquired spirit and heart, that you will leave here with a feeling that you have a contribution to make in some way to improve the world in which you live and that you will resolve ih your hearts to put out your utmost effort to achieve this goal. You are all aware, I am sure, of how important team spirit is. In many athletic contests the team with spirit wins, even though the individual players may be technically inferior to the other team. Your achievements as you leave here will depend in great measure on the spirit, heart, and idealism which you have. Many people are embarrassed to show spirit and enthusiasm, but, in general, the person who is most successful displays this special quality which affects others and inspires them to become more active participants. We hope each of you will have the courage to display enthusiasm and spirit and to influence others to do the best they can in whatever constructive activity is at hand. 9 MR. BENUSCAK Music MR. Fusun spent the year with Dr. and Mrs. Fisher and their family. To my dear friends - The time passes. If you have a good time among friends, you can't understand how it passed. Almost one year has passed since I left Turkey and it has been full of new experiences for me. Every day I get to love my (Fisher) family, my friends, and my town more and more. I am going back to my own country thinking how wonderful and helpful you all were. I'll miss you - I have gotten to love you; you are friends I’ll never forget. Hepinize saadetlerle dolu bir hayat dilerim. SUCCESS AND SECURITY GO HAND IN HAND Graduation . . . and the end of twelve years of grade and high school . . . the beginning of a new era for you. Many of you will be going on to college, to technical schools . . . while others will be going directly to jobs. Whichever your course may be, remember that your education doesn't stop when you finish school. You can keep on learning . . . by reading, by being constantly curious on your job, about everything you do, and finding answers to your questions. You can't stand still . . . for space-age America holds little for those who refuse to make progress. The scientists of the future need trained workers to back them up . . . technicians who can build from their plans. In business, in communications ... in arts and the professions . . . there's a future for those who keep learning. . . those who acquire more skills and more knowledge. In the past, the people around you have tried to guide you and help you so that you will be better equipped to face the future. In a small way the bank has played its role too. Those of you who have used one of the bank's many services ... by starting a savings account through the school . . . have seen what happens to your money ... it grows. Now, in the years ahead, miss no opportunity to add to your store of knowledge. Keep searching for facts, for theories . . for the basic information you will need to help you grow in- your chosen field. Whatever your needs may be, we at the bank are ready to serve you and are willing to try to assist you. If you do learn, you'll fit into the pattern of the future . . . ready to accept the opportunities it holds for success. OR A DEAD END STREET? When commencement is over, where do you go from there? Not too many years ago, a high school education was sufficient for most jobs; college was almost a luxury except for those who planned careers in such fields as medicine and law. Today, the pattern is entirely different. Advances in technology affect everyone in every business . . . and, frankly, a high school education is seldom enough to equip you to meet the challenge of the present ... to help you get a job with a future. What’s the answer? More education . . . four-year colleges, junior colleges, community colleges, technical schools, extension courses, anything at all which will increase your knowledge, develop your personal skills. There are jobs waiting .. . but these jobs call for knowledge and skill. Gen- eral Electric is just one of the many companies which will have job openings in the years to come for those who can meet job requirements. There are new products, new technologies on today’s drawing boards . . . with still others yet to be thought of . . . which will call for people with education, training and ability. The future needs not only men and women to come up with ideas, but also people to put those ideas into practice . . . designers and developers, scientists and salesmen, technicians and teachers . . . people with sufficient education to fill jobs. Now it’s up to you. You may choose the broad highway open to you through more education ... or wander down the dead end street of lost opportunities. If you keep learning, you’ll keep growing . . . growing with our nation in the age of space. GENERAL ELECTRIC SCHENECTADY PLANT Janet B. Kay M. Carol B. Christie B. Alice T. Lynda W. Michael T.
