Jn Appreciation As our senior year draws to a close, and our job as yearbook editors is over, we want to express our appreciation to all those who have aided us during the year. We want to give special thanks to our advisors, Mr. Terpening and Miss Walmsley, and to the editors of our staff. We should also like to thank the members of our class who have always been ready to support and help us. As you look through this yearbook, we hope that each page will mean as much to you as it does to us. Message to the Class of 64 'ometlmc we feel that we, as individuals, cannot make much of a contribution and, as a result, do not amount to much. Recently, a speaker in the Los Angeles Coliseum was trying to demonstrate the Importance of one individual. He had all of the lights in this huge amphitheater turned off and then he lit a match. In the darkness the thousands of people could see this one little light. He then asked the. audience to light matches, and when they did everyone was imaied at the volume of light produced. ength of out school and of our country does not so much depend upon a few leaders but lies in the power of all of arry their share of the load and who produce their quota of light. It is important for each of o have a contribution to make: it is our obligation to develop our talents to the fullest extent use them to produce as much as we are capable of doing. most important because these are the years when the major portion of your time is devoted our talents. Girls 'State The Ballston Spa American Legion Auxiliary sponsored me at the 1963 Empire Girls' State which began June 21st and ended the 29th. During this period I learned the functions of New York State government and had a wonderful time. It was a pleasure and an honor for me to have represented our high school at Girls' State, and I wish to thank those of you who made this worthwhile experience possible for me. Anne Gardiner Boys Down in Chenango Valley, Colgate's campus rings with cheer ... So goes the Boys' State songl We were delegated to the annual Boys' State Convention sponsored by the American Legion the week of June 23-29. Its function is to acquaint boys our own age with the fundamentals of New York State government. State Local government is established first, and as the week progresses the Senate and Assembly are formed, all this activity culminating with the election of a governor. We wish to take this opportunity to thank the American Legion and Rotary Club for sponsoring us. Peter Tracy and United Rations East side, West side, all around the town ... Sidewalks of New York Late in July, I boarded the bus for New York City, as the representative from Ballston to the United Nations. Sponsored by the Odd Fellows and Rebeccas of the Ballston area, I spent a week studying the United Nations and the highlights of New York City. Among the many places that our group visited were the International House. Radio City, Music Hall, a Broadway play, the Russian ambassador's house, and the New York Stock Exchange, The trip was very interesting and educational, but also, it was a lot of fun. I am veryglad I had the opportunity to visit the United Nations. Patsy Armstrong National Mo nor Society Since its establishment in 1953, the local chapter of the National Honor Society has sought to promote the standards of Service, Leadership, Character, and Scholarship, It raises money to support the AFS student and to send an American candidate abroad. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY n—a An Service Club, advised by Mr. Komar, contributes to the beauty and spirit of our school. The projects of the club include posters for the games, decorations for the two annual dances, and the Christmas decorations for the halls. Service Club The members of Service Club benefit the school in many useful ways. Under the direction of Mr. Bartholdi, they sell tickets and popcorn at home games, work in the bookstore, serve as ushers at plays, and type for teachers. Students find Service Club a means to fill spare time with worthwhile activities while developing a greater sense of respon1 sibility and school spirit.
