PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE What happens to America in the years ahead will depend upon what the American people choose to do today. Whether we have a welfare state or a dictatorship, or retain our freedom will depend upon the choices we, as Americans, are making today. You, our present student body, are destined to become America. You will be a party to these choices. The most important thing today is that you are now making decisions which will affect America in the years to come. If you are choosing the easy road, if you are taking the attitude, “let the other fellow do the hard work,” if you are just getting by and expecting something for nothing, then America will eventually lose the freedom that it cherishes. My admonition to you, the senior class, is to resolve to develop your own talents to the greatest extent possible, to establish your independence by diligent work, to resolve to stand on your own feet and carry your share of the future. To the underclassmen I would say your goals seem more remote; nevertheless, they are just as important as those which the senior class finds closer at hand. You are building the all-important foundations and you should resolve that you are going to be ready to carry the responsibilities of the future for the betterment of America and of the world. 9
